Thrombosis In My Portal Vein Posted: 09-23-07 12:38pm
I am a 27 year old female. 1 year ago i
was told by the doctors that i have a
thrombosis on my portal vein ( the vein
between my liver and spleen ) I take
Warfarin every day now and the clot has
gone but I have been left with a condition
called Hyperspleenism - I am anemic all
the time, have a low white cell count and
low platelets of sometimes as low as 22. I
am at risk of bleeding if i were to have
any injury of any kind. I really feel that
i would like my spleen taken away as it is
17-18 cm in size and feel like i would be
back to normal if i had my spleen removed.
I have asked the doctors if i could have
my spleen taken out but they all say that
this operation is to risky for me. Can you
tell me why they will not do this for me.
P.S I only weigh a healthy 8 and a half
stone and have never had any other health
problems
