Tmj Excessive Salivation
Posted: 09-22-07 21:47pm

I have been to an ENT and I have had test for salivary stones and they said that I do not have any. But, I have what feels like a lot of tmj pain mostly on the right side of my jaw near the joint I think and if feels like saliva gets blocked there then shoots out if I massage the area. The left side if fine but when it releases it the tmj pain also feels less painful. Has anyone had this, can the tmj muscle in that area spasm so much to cause problems with the paratoid gland in that area?

Yes it could. I have a lot of saliva too, thats just from haveing so many foreign objects in my mouth for so long. I think you should get your tmd under control. If you need help finding a doctor let me know.

Right now I just have some right ear pain and if also feel like the pain is in my mouth on the same side behind the back teeth. It hurts so much. Is there a way to stretch these internal muscles ... I think it is the lateral pterigoid.

you can do masagge on them put pressure on it and rub downwards.or you could spend some money and get a tens machine. and before you use it ask your doctor to show you how to use it.

No one has ever mentions a TENS machine to me before. Is it easy to use? Also is there a way to find out which muscle triggers the excessive salvation?

yes a tens is easy to use--the machine is a little expensive. usually they dont give you one unless you are really bad. I have one. Its primarily used by neuromuscular dentists. and that method of treatment really works.

Im not quite sure which muscles trigger salivation. Im sure you could do a search on it or ask your doctor. i can see if i can find anything.
