Q: Questions About Excess Iron And Hemoglobin In Blood

I was wondering if someone could tell me what symptoms excess iron in the blood might cause. I was just told I have very high iron in my blood with a saturation rate of 66, high hemoglobin and high homocysteine. Thanks!

haemochromotosis
hi i have a friend diagnosed haemochromotosis,(60years old) she now drinks tea(caffiene restricts the uptake of iron, no vitamin c, and suggested to take codliver oil(vit D)to help thin her blood, she was regularly having blood letting done, to lower the iron stores.she is on asprin therapy.

i found this on the internet, to answer your question to symptoms, (i thought haemochromostosis when i read your question) im not a medical practitioner.
so:
Joint pain is the most common complaint of people with hemochromatosis. Other common symptoms include fatigue, lack of energy, abdominal pain, loss of sex drive, and heart problems. However, many people have no symptoms when they are diagnosed.

If the disease is not detected and treated early, iron may accumulate in body tissues and eventually lead to serious problems such as

arthritis
liver disease, including an enlarged liver, cirrhosis, cancer, and liver failure
damage to the pancreas, possibly causing diabetes
heart abnormalities, such as irregular heart rhythms or congestive heart failure
impotence
early menopause
abnormal pigmentation of the skin, making it look gray or bronze
thyroid deficiency
damage to the adrenal glands
