I was gaining 40+lbs on risperdal. So I
asked my pdoc to switch me to Abilify. It
is now my 5th day of 10mg dosages, and in
5 days I've slept in total of about 8
hours. Has anyone experienced this side
effect? Does it go away eventually ater
getting used to it? Also, how long does
that take? Best Regards
ps I feel that it really is a good drug,
crisp thought and a better vision of
reality... I don't want to quit it, but I
may have to switch back to risperdal if I
can't go to sleep.

I'm sorry I don't have an answer to your
questions, but I have a question of my
own. Did you gain weight as result of your
eating? I'm on Risperdal, I don't eat but
I gain weight.

Yes I gained weight because of my
uncontrollable appetite, I would eat too
much. How could you not eat but gain
weight? Unless somehow the risperdal was
solely responsible. Thanks for your
reply

it sounds like risperdal and abilify are not working Posted: 04-19-08 03:29am
it sounds like rispderal and abilify
aren't working. it might be best for you
to ask your doctor to try something else.
people aren't meant to live on only 8
hours of sleep. we need rest so we can
work and take care of responsiblities and
we may think we have good judgement
sometimes when we haven't slept but very
often it takes a rested mind to be able to
tackle normal everyday problems and
situations in a proper and correct way. i
suggest warm chocolate milk to help you
sleep until you see your doctor, and avoid
caffeine.

Abilify works like "speed" for me also Posted: 05-14-08 07:58am
After being hospitalized last week I am
back on Abilify myself. I agree you get
very little sleep and I have been on my
feet walking non-stop practically for 3
days.
This is a side effect stated on the
Abilify website. Abilify also gives me
nightmares so that doesn't allow much
sleep either and was why I quit taking it,
my wife says it has been a year.
Resperdal and Zyprexa also gave me major
munchies as you said, I've put too much
weight back on. But that said I have to
admit I am feeling a little better. So
you might hang in there. I am taking
15mg. of Abilify only. Just got off work
and took some Xanax I have left over from
another doctor hoping to get some sleep.
Best of luck to you and God bless. I am
new to this forum and was surprised how so
many posts sound just like me.
