Im 16 year old female. My mom passed away in october from cancer. I handled it pretty good and I stayed in shcool and I was fine. My dad and I went on a cruise for christmas and it was great. I guess I would say about 2 weeks after I got back I was in school in lunch and I started to get very hot and sweaty and shaky I had no idea why so I went to the bathroom and called my dad and he came to get me. That was the first attack but I didnt know any better, so I didnt pay attention to it. After that the next few days went by and they started coming more and more but I still didnt think any thing of it. Next thing I know im getting homeschooled bc I was too afraid to go back. Then im too afraid to go out! Im always nervous and everytime I go somewhere I get a pannic attack and nobody seems to understand how bad I really am. I have an appointment with a pshyciatrist on friday and im too afraid to go..Does anyone understand me??

Anxiety & Stress
Bonnie, you are only 16 years old. You have had a delayed reaction to the death of your mother. That is understandable. What you are experiencing is ptsd(post tramatic stress disorder). It will pass, I hope you are seeing a therapist. You are not alone. You will get thru this I promise you. I went thru ptsd 9 years ago due to an auto accident I was in. It took a year of therapy, but I survived and you will too. Good luck and god bless you. Wink Wink Wink

Perfectly normal under the circumstances, I like all that sans54 said in her note. After you have a few panic attacks you begin to fear them and associate physical sensations with them and begin to think they are coming on and work yourself up into a panic attack. I'm in the 10th week of a 12-week cbt group that meets once a week and i'm learning a lot and making a bunch of progress. You may want to read the two books we are using in my group, "been there, done that? Do this!" by sam obitz and "mastery of your anxiety and panic-third edition" by michelle craske and david barlow. I like the obitz book because it is a short book and all the chapters in it are short and the other one is more specific and real helpful for panic. I'm just starting to get good at using the tea form and it helps a lot. We have several people in our group who suffer from different forms of health anxiety as well as people suffering from depression, sad, ptsd and panic (which is what i'm there for). Take care and know that you will get better Smile

See if you can find a psychiatrist or psychologist who specializes in cbt! The obitz book is a great intro into cbt as well and quite motivating.
Good luck and it's great that you are not putting off doing something about this :d

I Hope You Feel Better
I am 22 and I have anxiety. I understand what you are talking about. I have been having constant trouble breathing for over 2 months now. Stress can build when you dont even know it. It sounds like you have had stress sneak up on you. Talk to people about it. That is the best thing you can do. It always makes me feel better to tell someone. Learn to relax too. Ask someone to massage your back and just relax. You will get better! Just don't keep it all inside. Go to the doctor and tell him/her what you are experiencing. They can help. Ambra

I hope that you feel better , and I hope that you make the desision that you feel is right

try and get involved in a cbt group in your area if you can as it is the most effective treatment for panic and anxiety Smile

i don't know but think this would be the exact opposite. The siezures would bring out the panic attacks.
