Q: Scoliosis Question

A question about scoliosis.

Scoliosis of ending at the T10 with a 10 degree curvature should not be a concern is that correct? The symptoms are just uneven shoulders. Can a cast or a brace be fitted to prevent any further symptoms or just observation is required? Do doctors nowadays use the cast/brace treatment?

Thanks

Every scoliosis is a consern, even a mild one. It is a big lie that mild scoliosis can be ignored. The cause that causes scoliosis will cause more problems in future. And that cause is most often in pelvis ie uplift rotation of other ilium. If not corrected it will cause lumbad spine and disc degeneration, hip and knee joint arthritis and many other problems too.

Scoliosis with Harrington Rods
It depends....Many people have a very slight curvature. Even under normal circumstances the spine has slight curvatures in it. If your doctor has told you that you have mild scoliosis, here's what you should know.

How old are you? If you are young and have not experienced a growth spurt yet, then a brace can help to stop your curve from progressing. If you are past your growth spurt, then the doctor may recommend some strength exercises.

The important thing to remember is that you always need to have it monitored once a year to make sure that the curve is not progressing. Most people with scoliosis live with a slight curvature and never require surgery. Others, like myself, had no choice but surgery because my curve was too advanced and threatened future health problems.
