Oily discharge
Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for all your input. I am currently experiencing this oily orange discharge and had some suspicion that it might just be the fish 1 ate 2 days ago.
I had a similar experience when i had cod fish last time...so i thought that perhaps the unidentified grilled fish i ate might just be of the same family.

And yes...it's very inconvenient and downright embarassing too...

Ladies: wear a panty liner - you can throw it when it gets soiled by the oil.

Cashews.
Stupid cashews! I am glad to have found this site though, I thought for sure my Vegan diet was not as healthy as I believed it to be! Glad to know it will clear up in a day or so. That totally does me in for cashews for a while. At least Walgreen's brand roasted ones!

Yellowish Orangy POOP
I also ate a bunch of cashews last night, and today I had the yellowish orangy POOP. It was kind of like diarrhea, but came out like water at first. I think it's the way that your body reacts after ingesting too much fat. I'm not a doctor so I don't know this for a fact, but it seems to happen to quite a few people after eating too many cashews. It is weird though... I guess it's your body saying you've had enough for now.

Some answers...
From Wikipedia under the Escolar page:

Effects of consumption

Like its relative the oilfish (Ruvettus pretiosus), it cannot metabolize the wax esters (Gempylotoxin) naturally found in its diet, which accumulates to give an oil content in the muscle meat of 18¢ï¿½ï¿½21%. These wax esters may rapidly cause gastrointestinal symptoms following consumption; however, these effects are usually short lived.

The gastrointestinal symptoms, called "keriorrhea", caused by these wax esters may include oily orange diarrhea, discharge, or leakage from the rectum that may smell of mineral oil. The discharge can stain clothing and occur without warning 30 minutes to 36 hours after consuming the fish. The oil may pool in the rectum and cause frequent urges for bowel movements due to its lubricant qualities and may be accidentally discharged by the passing of gas. Symptoms may occur over a period of one or more days. Other symptoms may include stomach cramps, loose bowel movements, diarrhea, headaches, nausea, and vomiting.

To minimize the risk of symptoms, strict control of portion size is recommended as well as preparation methods that remove some of the oil. Grilling will greatly reduce the heavy fat content in the fish making it edible without ill side-effects. Portions should be no greater than 6 ounces.

Orange rectal discharge--uncontrollable. .
Thank God for this web site. I am wearing diapers because the orange oily discharge is staining leaking uncontrolably. Escolar fish is the culprit. The only bad news is I'm taking much longer to get over it than other people. I can't leave the house and I'm in dire need of groceries. I'll never eat escolar again, despite it's yumminess.

I guess I just have to wait and hope in a day or two I can stop with the Depends!

wow, I didn't know that this symptom was quite popular. I am currently having this oily orange diarrhea, and I ate some fish, don't know what kind, but it must've been the fish. hope this will go away soon.

Thank you for all the info on this topic.

Thank you!
Oh wow, I was really freaking out. Everything on the internet said that I had to go in for blood samples for liver disease, etc. And I'm a vegetarian, so I don't eat meat, making the fish out of the question. Good thing I read down more, because I do remember eating quite a few cashews the other day. I thought I was dying! Thanks so much for the help.

I'm having the same problem. I'm frustrated because everyone on here has eaten fish or cashews and I havent. I threw up just plain orange liquid also about 3 wks ago. I don't know. Can't find a lot out about it unless you've eaten fish or cashews which I haven't.

Thanks for your posts everyone, especially that article about the escolar fish! My oily, yellow diarrhea-like stools are probably caused by eating too much escolar fish, I think. However, I thought that I was eating "Taiwanese sea bass." Be careful when you are shopping for fish. Apparently, mislabeling of fish is quite common, so buyer beware.

Was I the only one here who wanted the orange oily stool? My mother told me of this magical fat extracting fish that would lower my cholesterol. "Lives to be hundreds of years old" she says. She said the results of the fat extraction would be evident in my stool. Sure enough, after eating 4 fillets in two nights, orange oily stool!

But, the question is...Is all that fat from the fish itself or is it from your body?

What a surprise to wake up to.........
I experienced the same thing this am. Ate a ton of Coconut Shrimp yesterday (has lots of mayo in it) and have to say I did feel SUPER bloated last night at my halloween party but figured it was just that the costume was a bit tight in the first place. Since I did drink quite a bit..I came home and had the munchies so ate a couple of slices of swiss cheese (yum...more fat) and a couple of cake pops (yup...more fat from the chocolate cover and frosting) and this morning I was freaking out because not only had this never happened to me before but it scared the hell out of me. I am also taking My Alli so with the combination of all these things...it seems inevitable (found out this am it is apparently a side effect of My Alli).

All I can say is my date is canceled tonight and I am SOOOOOOOOO thankful this didn't happen to me last night AT the party.

Hey everyone wow i have been having the same thing today is my second day of this grose orange stuff. I thought it was to do with my menstrual cycle as i have it at the moment. Last time i ate cashews was about a week ago and fish months so i can say that its definately from that. I am sick at the moment to flu symptoms and i figured it might be from that, or the fact that im taking roaccutane but i really dont think that thats the cause of the orange spotting. I do sometimes feel sick/nauseas and have a bloated tummy i try to eat quiet healthy so i am very confused as to why this is happening to me. how long does this usuaslly last???
