EicoRx Zone Fish Oil Overdosing
Posted: 03-15-08 14:30pm

I daily take 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon fish oil mixed with orange juice, with an organge juice chaser, followed by a protien and milk shake, and then by a bowl of protien cereal. Three days ago I upped the dosage to 2 tablespoons, and I mixed it with Tropicana Pomegranate Blueberry juice instead. Two days ago the oil steathily escaped from my colon leaving me frustrated and for the first time in my life seriously wondering if adult diapers would be noticeable under my shorts. Unfortunately I had already taken the 2nd day's dosage when this incident occured, thereby ensuring an unwelcome repeat performance. Since it's purified fish oil, not fish with some oil in it, that I am consuming, it only takes 15 minutes to go through me, but residual oils are still leaking one day after my 2nd dose. Not tomorrow, but the next day, I'm going back to 1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon mixed with the Pom/Blue juice, and if the problem persists I'll switch back to orange juice to see if that makes the difference.

Orange oil leak...ick
Posted: 04-02-08 11:44am

So, I DID NOT eat any sort of fish or fried chicken and am not taking any diet pills....The only thing I can think of is skyline chili that I ate 2 days ago. I had a chilito and a southwestern wrap. Honestly, I think it is from the high cheese content...enough fatty cheese could do it, couldnt it? With that stuff you can actually see the orange oil you are eating while you are eating it, which is why I know thats what caused this nastyness (No more skyline!!!). Its weird too because I get the slight cramps at night and in the morning... and then the leakage is during the night and in the morning... It is not too bad during the day...not yet anyway. This morning was really bad. It scared me!

Pringles can cause this too
Posted: 04-22-08 21:22pm

Today I was reading this discussion because I was having the same problem as the rest of you with an oily substance. I do not eat fish since I am a vegetarian and I had not had cashews for several weeks. I remembered reading several people bringing up Olestra well low and behold while eating some Pringles Light Fat Free I see on the front of the canister MADE WITH OLESTRA in all caps. Normally I eat pretty healthy but yesterday since I was out somewhere that would not have any thing vegetarian for me to eat except for French Fries I opted to get a can of pringles instead and last night was when I started having the problem.

After this happening and reading what Olestra can do to you I think it is time to throw away the can of Pringles.

Glad to find this blog... , I've been eating "walu" for years but never had this problem until I ate an unusually large amount the other day... Found this on Wikipedia...

Escolar is consumed in several European and Asian countries, as well as in the USA, sometimes raw as sushi or sashimi. It may be sold as "white tuna" - a term also used for the albacore - or as "super white tuna" to distinguish it from the albacore.[1] Escolar is also sold misleadingly as "butterfish", "oilfish" and "Hawaiian butter fish"; in Hawaii and Fiji, it is known as walu. Like oilfish, a related species with similar consumption consequences, escolar is also sometimes deceptively sold under the name of an entirely different species of fish, most commonly "codfish" or "orange roughy".

[edit] Effects of consumption
Like its relative the oilfish (Ruvettus pretiosus), it cannot metabolize the wax esters (Gempylotoxin) naturally found in its diet, which accumulates to give an oil content in the muscle meat of 18–21%. These wax esters may rapidly cause gastrointestinal symptoms following consumption; however, these effects are usually short lived.

The gastrointestinal symptoms, called "keriorrhoea", caused by these wax esters may include oily orange diarrhea, discharge, or leakage from the rectum that may smell of mineral oil. The discharge can stain clothing and occur without warning 30 minutes to 36 hours after consuming the fish. The oil may pool in the rectum and cause frequent urges for bowel movements due to its lubricant qualities and may be accidentally discharged by the passing of gas. Symptoms may occur over a period of one or more days. Other symptoms may include stomach cramps, loose bowel movements, diarrhea, headaches, nausea, and vomiting.

To minimize the risk of symptoms, strict control of portion size is recommended as well as preparation methods that remove some of the oil (e.g. grilling). Portions should be no greater than 6 ounces.

Thank God it's not just me!!

I started a detox on Monday and by the Wednesday was suffering from the dreaded oily orange discharge. I had no idea what it was but now I do! And guess what I've been eating since the detox started? Cashew nuts. LOADS of them! I've eaten cashews before, but never to this extent so I think my lesson has been learned.

Thank you all so much for being honest about this really not pleasant ailment. At least we're not alone, huh?

It's the cashews, but...
Posted: 07-12-08 13:27pm

Hi! Thank you for calming my nerves. I had this happen about 3 weeks ago after eating waaay more CVS Whole Cashews than I should have. I was about 75% sure it was the cashews. Therefore, I waited a few days before finishing off the few that were left and had no problem. The other possibility was Arizona Stress Rx Iced Tea, which I was drinking for the first time.

Earlier this week, Walgreens had a deal on their Fancy (Whole) Cashews which was too good to pass up. I reduced my portion from gargantuan to huge and seemed to have escaped the oily aftermath. However, the following day, I finished the bag, along with some potato chips and blue tortilla chips, and had an oily reoccurrence.

Despite knowing what triggers it, I'm still wondering why it's happening. I find it hard to believe I've never eaten like this before (see my user name). I'm now in my 50's, but see others here much younger having the same problem. My diet makes me a little overweight and reluctant to call myself "healthy." On the other hand, my constitution is a source of amazement to those who know me well. I routinely ignore expiration dates and eat food past its prime, including fish, without any consequences. (It must be the "'children are starving in China' thing" from my youth.)

So, any more thoughts about different reactions due to the brand of cashew? How about whole cashews versus halves or pieces? Both CVS and Walgreens brands are cooked in "peanut and/or soybean oil." An earlier post mentioned Planters, specifically. Although it's possible, it would seem unlikely a "premium" nut company like Planters would produce the store brands I've mentioned. Coincidentally, I was drinking a different type of Arizona Iced Tea again, if that triggers any thoughts.

Sorry about the length of this, but I'm hoping we can shed more light on the cashew-induced part of this. Naturally, you healthy fish eaters are way ahead of us!

Chalk another one up to the cashews.

I've been eating them over the last two days, and about an hour ago all hell broke loose.

I do eat them quite regularly with no problems, but this time I bought a different brand that were surprisingly cheap - I guess I know why now!

Cheers for your help guys, saved me an evening of panic!

Any more thoughts on how long I'm going to have to put up with this?

Alli

Are any of you taking the weight loss pill Alli? That is a very common side effect if you don't eat properly with it, it was one of the main reasons I quit using Alli. Just thought I'd throw that in there

oh my gosh!!! This is soooo weird! Several months ago, I had diarrhea which had oily orage stuff floating on top, but the only thing I ate different that could've caused it was a boat-load of cashews the day before. Could it have been from so much oil in them???? How strange....

so now we know cashew nuts can trigger this strange phenomenon. The reason I say this is because I ate a whole packet of roasted cashew nuts two days ago and I now have this horrible effect. Thanks sweet4jay for confirming this.

Well, I eat almonds daily and I also have the oily stuff problem. Can we include almonds as a suspect?
