We burp, belch and fart an average of 12 times a day. But why do we have gas? And what is intestinal gas?...the basics here....

How much gas is normal? Usually symptoms of gas and flatulence are more bothersome than serious. But learn when you should seek help for excessive gas here....

Well, today I fell asleep in one of my classes (in a chair, hunched over on a desk) and when I woke up I had a HUGE stomach ache and had a ton of gas. i've had this happen before to me and i'm pretty sure it's trapped gas but I just don't know why it's trapped. Also, is this a normal thing?

Thanks.

What are you eating in the morning? This could have something to do with it. If you are eating fruit mixed with cereal or other foods this can cause gas. Fruit uses a different digestive enzyme to break down and when mixed with other foods the fruit will take longer to digest causing fermentation - therefore gas. Just keep in mind what you eat and how long after you fall asleep in the chair. You may also be in the middle of digestion and interuption too can cause gas.
