Mononucleosis Rash Without Amox? Posted: 09-19-07 11:50am
My girlfriend had a horrible rash and was
tired and that is how she got tested for
mono and it came out positive.
Can you have a rash from mono ALONE or are
the meds the only thing that cause it?
She has had the rash for over a month now
and it comes and goes.
Allergic reaction was the doc's first
thought but it kept coming back even after
she was taken off many foods and meds.
So does she need to be tested for
something else or can the mono alone cause
this?
Thanks

yes! she can get the rash without the
antibiotics. my son just got out of five
days in the hospital with the rash and he
tested positive for mono but never went on
antibiotics. the docs say the virus itself
can trigger the allergic reaction called
STEVENS JOHNSONS SYNDROME. please google
it right now. it's very serious and can be
missed by docs easily. its also not so bad
in some people so don't let the google
search freak you out. hopefully she gets
help. see my comments just added to that
mono/rash dialogue to see how my son
successfully dealt with that horrible,
painful rash. good luck to you.
