Q: Crawling Sensations Under the Skin: Collembola (Springtails)

I've suffered from crawling sensations under my skin, mainly on my shoulder, but also face, hair, legs, feet, just about everywhere, since 2004.
I don't have the fibres some people talk about but maybe that's a secondary complication.
I've discovered from researching that they are Collembola (Springtails) and now I can actually see them under the webbing of top layer of skin by using the new kids toy EYE-CLOPS which you view, at 200 x magnification, on your TV screen.
They are white and reflect the light from the magnifier (especially their eyes). Still waited till they moved to make sure I wasn't imagining it.
Bad news is that I've been trying for 12 months to kill them, to no avail. I can't think of any more things to try but if I find something I'll let you know. When I have really made them suffer, they bite, but seem to recover quickly.
Worst time I gave them was when I had the church Elders pray for me. The Springtails bit me for days, keeping me awake at night, but they're still here. Maybe God has a purpose for my suffering. I'll keep you posted. Don't give up! Lyn

Hi Lyn,

I'm so sorry to hear you have this. I know exactly how it feels. I have had the same crawling skin sensations, stings, and after treating with sulfur cream was finding clear, salt-like round crystals that look like flea eggs and bodies of what looks like a small wormlike creature with a head and a long tail. I showed it to a doctor and he said that I am delusional. Just because they can't find it in their nerdy little book they think it doesn't exist. That's delusional!

Anyway, a doctor can give you something that can temporarily alleviate some symptoms,--a sterhoid shot, sterhoid cream, hydrocortisone cream, and benadryl to treat the allergic reaction and help me sleep at night.

As for other remedies, please contact me and I can let you know what else has been working for me to reduce their population and what else might work. Two heads are better than one. Let's see what we can come up with together and maybe God will give us a chance to live a normal life again.

My prayers go out for you,
Richard

Thanks Richard!
I have found a picture of a Springtail (Collembola) which looks like the ones I can see under the top layer of my skin but was unable to paste it in this box. (Note: there are over 6,000 types of Collembola apparently)
I can send you the photo.
Did you keep using the sulphur? I tired dandruff treatments on my skin as they contain sulphur and kill fungi etc. but to no avail.
A doctor friend suggested they maybe they are more prolific than is realised. Female patients report crawling under the skin sensations during menopause and it is listed as a symptom of menopause but nothing more.

We should keep up the research and the prayers. But there are visible skin parasites and worms that cause much more suffering to children and adults without access to any sort of treatment. I pray daily for all those who are suffering throughout the world but I would hate to pass on Springtails to anyone..... Lyn

nasty little critters
hi everyone
I have had my face destroyed by these things.
I have found 3 useful products that dry them up. I know when your skin is moist or wet they start crawling again so keep dry.
I used a topical solution of clyndomycin 1%
on my face and it dries them up and also heals your skin. I have usen that for acne for many years.
The other thing that got rid of them on my arm was applying pure tea tree oil to the lesions. They were healed in days. you can get the pure oil at whole foods.

At night I put on good old fashin calamine to dry up the skin and stop the itch so I can SLEEP!! I don't know if u can ever kill them
but getting rid of fungus in your body will give them less to eat. Lets starve them!!!
I have done alot of research on this and am trying many things. good luck god bless

I'm so glad to find other folks with this problem (but not glad you have it). The springtails affect me badly, but they don't seem to get under my skin or cause lesions--just the horribly infernal itching (including eyes, scalp, etc.). The last two years we had the exterior and interior of the house treated and that seemed to control them. This year, our wetest spring in decades, the treatment did not work! Please keep posting so we can share any help.

have you all seen the doctor for this? I am just wondering because I am having similar symptoms. My GP thinks I am crazy and sent me to a therapist and gave me xanax.
I have an apt. with a dermatologist at the end of the month. I am hoping that they can do some skin scrapings to tell me what this is and where to go from there.

I've started using a Microbe flush by Natural Care. You take it twice a day for 16 days and once a day for a9 days and you go back to twice daily. It flushes Bacteria microbes, protozoa, yeasts and fungus. If uou take this I recommend a Probiotic afterward to restore the friendly bacteria that our body has. That or you can cleanse, and or take prebiotic, try Kombucha or SCOBY-symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast. It works wonders, taste is different, but is said to even help toxic and cancer patients. It helps with my ongoing sinusitus due to living in the central valley. Any cleanses, internally, colonic etc. Try natural things its probably Parasites, from unhiegenic prepared foods to animals , not washing hands etc. We all have parasites, Americans just wish to cover it up and finger point at other countries. Hope evrything comes out ok.

Hi there. I had this a few times a few months ago, just for 2 nights..Though ive had it the last 3 nights.

It's like a sensation of someone faintly brushing a hair on your body with a feather or something, i woulndt call it crawling really.

But yes its tough falling asleep with that going on lol..
I noticed today I had it all day at work too.

I smoke, drink coffee, not the best diet. I do have alot of showers and wondering if that could be it maybe somehow stripping the natural oils or moisture from my skin?

I dont have any anxiety or stress in my life.

I get the sensation pretty much everwhere, i dont think its any kind parasite or bug...just doesnt make sense really probably more to do with diet or some kinda defieciency...

I do work night shifts so dont get a lot of sun and not too active on the computer all day.

How is everyones skin does it seem dry or anything unusual?

The other day before going to bed i noticed a shadow move by the sink then seen something black like a fly, but i looked and there was no fly...

so my other conclusion is it could be like someone else said issues with the kidney. Only reason i think this is my dad had kidney issues and when he couldnt clean the toxins out of his body sometimes he would hallucinate spider or bugs on the roof, stuff like that..

not thought id throw my 2 cents in, i really have no clue can only guess, i expect it to be gone soon. GL everyone, and don't get worked up over it im gonna try a few things and see if i can get rid of it then ill get back.
