Cancer Or Am I Just Paranoid - 19 year old, 2 years smoking Posted: 09-17-07 20:33pm
Hey I am a 19 year old male. I've been
smoking cigarettes for about 2 years now
and am trying to quit and have also been
smoking marijuana but for a longer period
of time, about 3 years. I used to drink
heavily but have reduced my alcohol intake
almost to none. About a month ago I
started getting pains on the left side of
my throat, right beside the Adam's Apple,
and in my left ear. I have red spots on my
tonsils and a mild cough. My doctor said
it is just an infection and prescribed
antibiotics but those have not seemed to
help my problem. I visited my dentist
about the lesion in my mouth and he said
that I have an impacted wisdom tooth that
needs removal. But, however, he also said
that the throat and ear pain is not
associated with the tooth. I am beginning
to get worried that this may be some sort
of a head and neck cancer because these
symptoms are and can be associated with
cancer of the head and neck. Is it
possible for a 19 year old to get cancer
after smoking cigs for only 2 years? Or am
i just paranoid? I am going to ask my
doctor to refer me to a ear, nose, and
throat specialist but if anyone can help,
please do. thanks

The throat and ear pain may just be caused
by your wisdom teeth. I don't know why a
dentist would tell you that it couldn't
be.
Do a Google search for "dental referred
pain" and you'll find a whole host of
information.
Oh...and quit smoking. If lung cancer
doesn't scare you, then perhaps pancreatic
cancer will!

Peale is right. Those pains more than
likely are caused by your wisdom teeth and
it is the right timing for your wisdom
teeth to be active.
Stop smoking. You'll be amazed how your
cough will go away. Its like magic
19 also seems to be an age where you start
to worry about all sorts of things. Like
mortality. Everything is not going to be
deadly. And everything is not going to be
cancer. It could be something simple like
an infection. If the antibiotics did not
work, tell your doctor. Maybe you need
something stronger.

Just don't go on Cipro, levaquin or other
quinolone antibiotics.

I Have a Lump Posted: 10-10-07 09:22am
I have a lump at the back of my throat
about an inch away from my toncil. It is
perfectly round about 3mm in size and
yellow\whitish. It moves around beneaf the
skin and I have had it there now for 8
weeks and not a single chnage in size and
is not painful. Anyone have any ideas what
this could at all be.

I had several sites referenced after this
post, but someone flagged them as
'advertisements' and I don't know why,
they were reference sites.
*sigh* just search on Google for
'fluoroquinolone' and look for the third
link down, the fq research site.

Sounds like something I had once. Some
kind of pus pocket on my tonsil. I
eventually took a sterilized pin and
lanced it.
This may or may not be what you have. See
a doctor.
