Q: Buzzing Ears, Please Help.

Hello. For the last year and half I have been dealing with pressure, sesitivity, ringing, and recently a lot of buzzing sensations in my ears, also tension in shoulders and neck pain, occasional aches through head, itchy sensations in my ears. I have gone to NUMEROUS doctors and been diganosed with Meniere's w/out the vertigo. My new doc and dentist combo (they actually work together) think the problem is TMJ. I had fallen down a flight of stairs around the same time sympotms started. Some xrays revealed no space between my jaw bone and inner ear, so I think this is the problem. The docs suspect ligament damage. My questions are: 1. Has anyone else had these expereiences? How long did it take to heal? I wear a guard over my bottom teeth round the clock to reposition my jaw, but at night I do not get to the correct position, but rest on top of it, any thoughts? Any advice or commraderie would be appreciated!
Jeanette

hey there, A lot of us have this. I have an idea of something that you could profit from. pm me and we will talk about it. You may not have meniere's. it is a possibility though. a lot of people with tmd have ear problems caused by the jaw. it does go away. do pm me and we can get you on the road to recovery.

Me Me Me Too!!!!! Hi Jeanette
Hi Jeanette, me me me i have it, exactly as you described. i am on to the ears!!! i'm cindy. I belong to a menieres group as well, where i am learning that menieres seems to have the same exact EAR symptoms, as TMJ, so there you have it. My ear problems are just like yours and i have tmj causing it, well technically my upper neck is doing it. i KNOW how bad it is, it drives me NUTS, especially the ear pressure, which i had long time ago , but i remember THAT very well. i have had ear problems for 7 years. i am always searching for a ear answer, thats what i do in my spare time, and hang out at groups to give moral support!!! i fixed my ears with a snap on earring, but no one believes me.LOL still experimenting on my self..... anyway you will find company right here, alot of us have the ear problems, so you are not alone. dont be scared!!!! Love cindy

Meniere's Or Tmj?
Hi all,
My doctor hasn't officially diagnosed me with Meniere's, though we did rule out a tumor from my MRI. I do have really bad TMJ..have had it for years, and am now thinking that it might be the cause of my Meniere's symptoms..pressure in my ears, ringing, dizziness. Did anyone experience relief from these type of symptoms through their TMJ treatments?

Thanks,
Skye

I had that problem. It's on and off now but rarely happens. Trauma to the jaws may cause tmj symptoms. Mine was due to an improper bite (my ortho pushed my bite too far back and my jaws were hitting a nerve or something) so pretty similar to trauma. But its now healing since I stopped wearing retainers and my teeth are relapsing. Maybe you should seek help from a tmj specialist for splint therapy becasue that's what I'll be doing to speed up the relapse and relieve pressure to the jaw joints.

splints arent always a good idea ---they compress the joints and often cause further problems later on even though at first it seems like it is working
