At age 16 with no kids gettign an IUD would be difficult, they prefer to put an IUD in a woman who has had at least one child. I dont know why, but thats what i read in the handout they gave me at the dr office. The shot is good as well, since u got o the dr like every 3 mths to get the shot and dont have to think about the pill or possibly missing a pill. Ive heard horror stories of the patch as well lol.
If you are ona lo dose pill make sure you take it at the exact same time every day. Its easy to forget or screw up and ive heard that you have ahigher chance of getting pregnant on a low dose pill if you dont take it at the same time everyday. I always managed to screw that up but not get pregnant. I got the mirena IUD but ive also had 2 kids and im almost 23 years old.

I have the Mirena IUD. It was very painful for about a month after insertion. They have to insert it while you are on your period. After insertion, I was on a constant period for about 7 months straight! It was awful. Now that it has been almost a year, I have no period at all. It gets confusing because sometimes I feel like I'm pregnant when I'm not.

I've heard horror stories about the patch as well. My best friend got pregnant on it. Also, blod clots occur with it.

The depo shot makes you gain a LOT of weight and I have another friend who got pregnant on that.

The subject is "pulling out" and I'm not sure why because I can't see any other post on here but Tink's.

They will give you the mirena if you don't have kids. That's an old attitude that is going away. If your doc won't give it to you, go to a different one.

this is the 2nd page
reading the birth control threads got me thinking to feel for the strings, but i think ifelt them but i have no clue, hubbys not here to check for me either but ah.
My sister was on depo she went like psychotic and was on klonopin and prozac and gained alot of weight, my friend was 16 when she got depo and didnt get periods at all , my sister bled the entire time she was on depo. I think the best thing for a teenager im thinking is the pill. Its easier for them unless they are comfortable inserting something then the nuvarings another option.
But all birth control is effective when takin correctly that means if they cum they shouldnt have to pull out. But theres still that 1% chance of pregnancy on any pill. But when taken correctly is highly effective.

I heard that some docs will give you Mirena without having kids first too. I think it would be one of the better choices for teenagers because it is more likely a teenager would forget to take the pill at the same time every day.

I think you should find a doctor that will insert it if you want it.

Do Not Get the Shot
DO NOT GET THE SHOT! It sounds great with the whole only once every 3 months but I do not know of a single OBGYN who recommends it. First it has an appetite enhancer so most women gain weight on the shot (20-30lbs) second: a lot of women bleed for a the first year to year and a half that they are on the shot. third: Several women get pregnant while on the shot. And finally: many women are unable to get pregnant after stopping the shot. It does far more damage than good. DO NOT GET THE SHOT!!

As far as the IUD it is a good option, even if you do not have children. However, it is not as easily reversed as the pill. Meaning only that it takes a little longer to get pregnant after stopping.

That's not true!! While the shot does seem to have more cons than some other forms of birth control, it works really well for some people. I've seen 4 gynos in my lifetime and they all gave me the option of the shot. And it does NOT cause infertility permanently. That is a myth. Women do NOT usually get pregnant on the shot. And some women do gain weight, but not all. Or even most. It's just like any other form. It doesn't work for some, but for some women, it's great.

Every woman has to find a different kind of birth control that fits their lifestyle. The shot is an option and a good one for some people. I personally won't use it because of the research done on bone density, but if you take proper precautions and know about the risks there's nothing wrong with being on it.

It is true that everyone has to find their own particular method. When I said that I do not know of any OBGYN's that recommend it that is because none of the OBGYN's in my life do (my aunt, roommate's mother, and my mother-in-law). The effects are of course different for everyone, though I have nto heard even half has many horror stories from the pill and have not heard of anyone that has had a GOOD experience with depo.

The infertility does not effect everyone either but is has effected my sister in a non-mythical way. She and her husband are now going through the adoption process because of the effects the shot had on her body. It may not be permanent but it is effecting them at the time they most want to have children.

It is only my suggestion. Everyone is different.

Pulling out does not always work either. I got my daughter doing that method, but I was not on another form of BC. But with my son I was on a pill and he would pull out low and behold we still have our son! Nothing is fool proof you just have to be as careful as you can and know that having sex comes with responsibility no matter what happens. I had a baby my JR year of highschool and it was hard but I knew what I was doing and we thought we were being safe until I got on BC but we still have her and I would NEVER trade her for anything! Very Happy
