Does Everyone Who Has Tmj Have Fibromyalgia? Posted: 09-15-07 21:38pm
Does everyone who has TMJ have
Fibromyalgia?
I had a car wreck when I was 14 (about 15
yrs ago). I hit the left side of my head/
face on the windshield and dashboard. Ever
since the wreck I've had clicking on the
left side of my jaw. Also from the wreck
I've developed a "bad" right shoulder
& a few other places in my back -
which I see a chiropractor for from time
to time - whenever my back or shoulder is
feeling unpleasant.
Anyways... I have recently developed a
dislocated disc in my lower back - and
giving me sciatic nerve pains (which I'm
starting to feel better )... and I was
doing some research on sciatica and came
across TMJ - and everywhere I looked I saw
Fibromyalgia with it.
The only thing about my TMJ is that my jaw
clicks & nothing else-- and at my last
check up with the dentist they told me my
bite was out of place and that I should
think about getting braces (which I will
soon)... blah blah blah... but I have no
face or jaw pains, dizziness, or headaches
from TMJ. I really never think twice about
it (until today).
so back to what I was asking... does
everyone has TMJ or has an auto wreck or
have back tenderness develop Fibromyalgia?

No some people that have fibromyalgia have
tmd. tmd can be an underlying symptom. I
have tmd but not fibromyalgia. You are
more likely to get tmd from a car accident
than you are to get fibro. in fact the
chance is almost nil.
I would not suggest getting braces. braces
often cause tmd more than fix it. i know
many people that get braces and are fine
and then end up with tmd.
i can find you a doctor in your area that
will fix the bite and the tmd. You should
come and post in the tmj forum. we would
welcome you there with open arms. IF you
need anything let me know. im right here
to help.

ok thanks for calming my nerves about the
fibro.
My dentist said that braces would correct
the TMJ/ or TMD and correct my bite at the
same time... but I won't do it now if it
will just get worse or come back.
anyways.. ok I'll head over to the TMJ
forum... and I would love it if you are
able to help me find a dr in my area.
thanks so much

Hey Posted: 09-17-07 13:03pm
ill be more than happy to find you a
doctor. Just pm me your zip code so i can
get it as close to you as possible. ill
get you the best one avalable.
I had braces to "fix" the tmd---made it
worse. so its actually a good idea that
you not go that route right now.

yeah tmj can just come by itself or from
anything...and its really nothing to worry
about...just sum ibuprofen if it hurts
usually and ur fine...if you have no other
symptoms but the jaw issues...its just tmj
im sure, i dont think braces will do as my
ma tried that too and no luck
i think ya should just see a doc and do
what they think is best...
im not sure if they can really do anything
to fix it...but a good idea to ask
anyways
mine doesnt bug me enough to even
care...so i dont bother
