Q: HIV / AIDS: Was I At Risk ?

Hi, people.

I know here is the right place to ask any concerns about hiv. I have a problem. I am scared of what happened today. I stopped on a gas station to pump mu tyres and while looking for some sharp stick I touched a syringe. I didn't touch the needle, neither I pricked myself. I just touched the outside part of the syringe. The reason I am scared is because I have a knife cuts on some of my fingers and I am afraid that these small cuts came in touch with the syringe. Was I at risk on this accidend and do I need PEP and to test for hiv?
Thanks a lot.

since you did have open wounds the you should probably get tested to be on the safe side

you never know where the syringe came from

however since you never touched the needle i wouldnt be worried about it

These are actually old cuts, the accident happened one week ago. Isn't that time enough for the cuts to close?
And how long does it take for the hiv virus to die outside the human body?
Were I really at risk?

Hold On//////////////
Why in the hell did you even attempt to pick up a syringe knowing hte dangers these possess? Do you not carry a tire gauge in your glove box? There is NO WAY I am going near a syringe,,,,except to maybe sweep it up into a dust pant and dispose of it that way, but to literally pick it up....what were you thinking? Go and have yourself tested anyway otherwise you're gonna worry yourself to death...........and keep your hands off the nasty things form now on.....yes mam Surprised

NO RISK, even if u had pricked yourself u need 2 drops of blood to be in the needle so u can get infected. People who share needles dont get infected right away they share more then once. IF in fact some day u prick yourself with a needle that can have hiv blood in it i suggest getting PEPs treatment right away, but this event is a NORISK. IF HOWEVER U GET PRICKED BY AN UNKNOWN NEEDLE ASK THE HOSPITAL FOR POST EXPOSURE PROPYLAXIS

Hi fsb.

You would need to have been pricked for there to be any risk at all.

You touched the syringe, not even the needle, HIV cannot live out on air. You touched the needles partculars even with cuts its pretty much impossible to contract HIV this way as the HIV virus is destroyed when its put out into the earths atmoshphere.

No risk whatsoever, forget about it.

Don't ever touch strange syringes.
