Are These Menopause Symptoms? Posted: 03-24-04 02:46am
My mother is 53 and started menopause a
few years ago. She has always had to
deal with bouts of depression, however,
these last few months she has
progressively gotten worse.
She complains of cold sensations that
randomly occur throughout her body. She
says they feel like rain drops hitting her
skin and the sensation spreads out. She
complains of a general feeling of pain
throughout her legs and body. She has
gone to the doctor and has had blood work
done, a nerve test and a cat scan done -
to test for ms. Everything has come back
negative.
She has become obsessed with this
condition. No one can have a
conversation with her because all she
speaks of is the problem. She sleeps all
day and has no life. I can't help but
wonder if she is experiencing symptoms of
menopause and her obsessive nature just
won't let go of the fear.
She has been taking oxapam for the last
year-and-a-half for depression and to help
her sleep. I also wonder if the medicine
is having an adverse effect on her and is
aiding her depression. I'm worried
because she has told me and my dad that
she can't go on living like this.
I understand that depression is playing a
major role here with her problem but I am
looking for an answer about her cold
sensations and aches. I believe that
finding an answer to that problem is the
first step in getting her back.
Has anyone had similar problems?

I know that a lot of women have it very
rough through menopause! I am 51 years
young(ha!Ha!) and even though I had a
complete hysterectomy I have slight signs
of menopause. Has your mom had a bone
density test(they are painless!)? Is
she on hrt(hormone replacement therapy)?
Has she been checked for arthritis or
fibromyalgia?
You say your mom is on oxapam rx, do you
mean oxazepam rx? This makes you very
sleepy! And everyone I know has
different side-effects with different
meds, you might try to get her out of the
house, this sometimes helps with the pain,
and something might have happened in the
past that needs brought out or she just
needs to talk to a professional and their
is nothing wrong with that, we all need a
little help sometimes, she might try yoga
or deep breathing exercises as this
sometimes helps with a lot of medical
situations! If she does not get help
with this soon, it could become a lot
worse. I hope this helps!
Sincerely,
sandy

Since this reply is a few months after
your post, your mother may have already
had this test.
The symptoms you describe are those of
hypothyroidism. She should have a doctor
run test for thyroid, such as a tsh and
free t4. I know of a few people who have
the same or similar symptoms and where
tested positive for hypothyroid.
Hope this helps!

Hello riverkee,
i would like to know how your mother is
nowadays. Does she still has these cold
raindropsfeelings? I looked at this forum
for the first time, because im in the
menopause and I also have all kind of
strange things happening in my body and I
get often scared of it, because I think I
have terrible diseases, like ms. In
holland we also has a forum about
menopause but noone has what I have, just
what your mother has. So I was surprised
to read about it. I also get very
depressed by it. My doctor doesnt know,
he cannt help me. I hope you read this
and tell me how your mother is. I hope
she feels better. Please let me know.
Love from holland , jaco

To help you learn more about the symptoms
of menopause feel free to send me an
e-mail and I will send you some
information. There is definately a way to
take your health back but very few people
learn it early in life.
