Q: Nuva Ring Placement

I have been on the nuva ring for about 2 weeks. Everything that I have read says that it does not matter where it is placed and your muscles will keep it in place. The problem is that mine starts to stick out, and I actually have to push it back in. If I push it up as far as I can it just comes right back down and I can always feel it. Does anyone else have this problem? I have talked to a friend of mine that has it to make sure that I am putting it in right, and I have followed the directions exactly. One other thing is that I have a lot of discharge that started when I got on the ring, Is this also a normal side effect?

A lot of discharge is normal. And no, it doesn't matter where in your vagina it is, as long as it doesn't fall out. The hormones are absorbed no matter where it is in your vagina. It doesn't have to be in really deep, although it might be more comfortable for you if it is in deep because you probably won't feel it.

Really, if it's in there anywhere, and the ring has expanded (like bounced out to a circular shape like it does) than your vaginal muscles should hold it in. If it is actually falling out, you will probably want to see your doc about it. You might have a problem with the muscle tension in your vagina.

I had it for a while and never had a problem with mine slipping out unless I was having sex or using tampons. If pushing it up as far as you can doesn't work, I'd see the doc. There's no magic trick to it or anything, it is really simple.

How far can the ring be placed in?
I can't really get mine in as far as I would like to with my hand & I used a tampon to push it in further but it still is only about an inch from the opening. I was wondering if there's any way I can get it to go in further so it wouldn't interfere so much with foreplay & intercourse.

Also is it easier just to take the ring out right before intercourse if you know that it will slip out as long as you replace it within 3 hours?

You could if you wanted, just don't forget to put it back in!

longer periods?
I just started using the ring at the start of my period and after a week I am still having light bleeding. Has this happened to anyone else? I know it will probably take my body to get used to being on birth control, especially since I have not been on any other chemical forms before but am trying to get an idea of what to expect. I made the mistake of reading an incredibly scary site about side effects am a bit freaked out.

Nuva Ring- Discharge and Spotting
I'm having all of the problems as the first person.
I have had the problems with the discharge and it's really annoying, because now I'm wearing panty liners all the time! I feel like the discharge is the hormone coming out onto my panties instead of being released into the bloodstream.

I also have to keep pushing it in and it's really frustrating because it won't stay in place.

My biggest concern, is when I have sex. I bleed, a lot. And I think it's because the ring is rubbing against my vagina and cutting it, but how un-sexy is that to bleed every time we have sex.
And it will sometimes continue to spot, but will go away after a day or two.

I'm thinking maybe I should see a doctor, but I thought I'd check to see if anyone else was experiencing similar problems.
