I have had a skin lesion on my shin for 3
months, initially docs thought it was an
ulcer though Im only 43 and in good
health.
I have had six courses of antibiotics but
it is still here,it is about the size of
an old ten pence(uk),completely
circular,it has risen slightly from the
surrounding skin and has a green
discharge.
Thankfully my gp has returned from
holidays and appears to be taking this
seriously, rather than referring to it as
an ulcer,he has now labelled it as a
suspicious skin lesion, the plan is to get
rid of the infection and refer me to skin
specialist a.s.a.p.
I am fair skinned with blue eyes,I dont
use tanning beds and mostly avoid the
sun,my skin is sensitive though.
Any input would be grateful.

Hi!
The description of skin lesion you wrote
is acceptable for skin lesion known as
ulcer. Due to its location is called
crural ulcer. Most of the crural ulcers are
caused by underlying vascular
insufficiency( venous stasis or arterial
insufficiency) Do you have varicose veins?
Have you experienced changed sensations in
you legs? Can you please, explain how this
lesion was developing? What you have
noticed first three months back?

Skin Lesion Posted: 09-17-07 12:00pm
My gp has referred me for a biopsy.
I dont have varicose veins and no unusual
sensations in my leg.
This wound/lesion developed from a small
pea like spot on the bottom of my shin,I
had it on my leg some 6 weeks before it
became inflamed and broke down.
I do have pain now(similar to being stung
by nettles).
My gp has given me yet more antibiotics
and a steroid based cream today.

Hi!
Does this lesion bleed or has a crust or
scab developed?
Skin lesions that won't heal in a long
time as yours are reason for performing a
biopsy. That's the only way to find out
what kind of lesion is this. It could be
some kind of granuloma and can be
suspected for cancer, too.
Do you have some chronic inflammatory
disease? Are you diabetic? Can you connect
the appearance of this lesion with some
specific event(swimming in pool)? Do you
find improvements with the cortico therapy
or is getting worse?
When you are going to have a biopsy?
Waiting for your reply!
