Opk Help
Posted: 09-13-07 10:15am

Ok ladies I need some help. I have an opk that I just took. It is not darker than the control line. But it really looks to be the same color. My question is this. For those of you how chart: do you record a + opk when it is the same as the control, or do you wait for it to be darker? I'm going to test again this afternoon, just to see if it is darker, I'm just not sure what to consider this one. Help!

I would mark it as a positive. That is close enough in my book. I think in the directions on the internet cheapies it says that a positive is when it is the same color or darker.

Thats really good that you are getting a positive opk...I bet you are so excited.

I really didn't get a positive opk this month. I messed up and forgot to get extra ones and when I tested yesterday and the day before, it wasn't at the same time (it was 3 hours later) and I forgot to not drink before I tested and my pee was almost like water...opps!!! I have been watching my cm this month and my temp went up this morning, so I am pretty sure I o'ed yesterday.

Good luck to you sweetie

When I was trying to figure out if I was ovulating on my first round of clomid, the Dr. said to count anything as dark as a +, then test later, if it is darker, count that as the true +, and keep testing until it becomes negative. She said in my case, that she needed me to get a neg too, so we knew ovulation had taken place.

Hope that makes sense! Good luck, it sounds like the eggy is on her way!

Thanks for the help. Charting + opk's is a whole new world to me. But, I'm not complaining. I was really hopefull that I was going to this month. But I was starting to doubt since today is CD17. I have been bd often. (I did last night, I just didn't update my chart this am). And then if we do tomorrow and then next day...i will be a happy camper. And we will be pretty close in dpo's.

I have this stupid grin on my face that will probably be there for the next 2 weeks. Especially if my test later is darker.

Now, I feel kinda stupid though. I thought It would be later and last night I just ordered 20 more opk's. That is the way it works though, right?

I always marked it as positive. That's what the directions in the packages say as well. It's the beginning of your surge and it's really the most important part. You should ovulate 12-36 hours after your first positive opk. And you're really supposed to stop testing after that, although none of us do. LOL!

Ok, so now I'm confused. I used another opk last night and it was negative. I thought surges were supposed to last for at least 24 hours? Am I wrong? Last month I was getting strong +'s for 2 days. Then my temp was 97.63 this am. I can't update my chart, or even see it. But, I posted a link just a few days ago. I'm just confused. Maybe, oh, I don't even know. Any input would be lovely!

Christy, that happens to me sometimes. Are you still using the opk twice a day? If not, you might have caught the surge on its way out, and by the time you checked the next time it was out so it wasn't detected.

Did you get even a faint line?

Sometimes after I get a positive, I will get a faint line the next day.

The line was still pretty dark, maybe a shade or two lighter then the control. But, it definitely wasn't positive. Yes, I've been using them twice a day. The two days they have been really dark, ALMOST + lines. Maybe I surged over night? I just always thought it lasted longer than that. I'll definitely keep testing, and temping. I'll see if ff will keep my crosshairs if I take out the + in a few days.

That sounds pretty normal to me. I usually never get more than one day of positive. If I do, it is strange for me. I am just happy sometimes if I get a line that is remotely close to the control. Maybe thats my problem, maybe that is a sign that Im not ovulating properly.

Who knows Confused

Really? I always have a second line. It is normally fairly dark. I mean you can't mistake it for a positive. But, It looks pretty dark. I think mine is like that because once I get kinda close my body *thinks* about it for a while. Then after a few days of thinking it says 'why not' and trys. Now, I'm just waiting to see if I really did, or just tried to.

I think what you are describing sounds like, what they are supposed to look like.

I would go ahead and mark it as a positive because like I said you're really supposed to stop testing after your first positive. Now just wait and see what your temps do.

Thanks ladies. I'm actually a little disappointed. We didn't bd last night. DH was tired. Confused All the time he has complained because he thought 'trying' meant we would do it more and I have just completely worn him out this month. Oh well, hopefully night before last and *hopefully* tonight will be good enough.

Heather, did you O yesterday or the day before that?

FF didn't mark it yet, but I think that I O'ed on Wednesday. My temp started to go up on Wednesday. I got my positive opk on Monday and I had EWCM and watery CM on Monday and Tuesday. I got a not so positive (or you can say negative)lol opk. It was dark, but not as dark as the control.

So I had messed up my data entry with my opk and when I went to correct it just now, it put me as having O'ed on Monday. I don't think that is the case. So for now I am taking out the OPK results and and it takes away the cross hairs. I am going to wait to see what it says with tomorrows temps. If it doesn;'t mark the cross hairs tomorrow, then I guess I will assume that I o'ed way early this month.

If that is the case, then I don't understand why my cycles are getting shorter. Last month it was only 23 days. It is usually 26 days.

Here is my chart if you want to take a look

After my first +, I tend to keep taking the opks until I either get a negative or a temp rise. However, the brand of opk makes a huge difference for me.

I never got a midday + with Answer 20, only fmu +'s.

I used the happy face ones (clear blue easy digital) for three cycles. I didn't get a + with those in the last two cycles at any time of day, despite getting a clear temp rise.

First Response seems to work very well for me. I think the threshold level is low, so you can see a second line when other opks don't show you one. You can also see it get darker each day before getting lighter. Plus, I can get a mid-day positive, which helps me detect the day of my surge.

I used Conceivex for two cycles. It only gives me one day of a second line, and that second line is a bit lighter than the control. I got the line on my o date the first cycle, but on the day before my o date on the second cycle. Since I still have a month and a half of conceivex left, I think I'll do the FR and Conceivex side by side again.

Today, I have to go out to get more FR opks. I'm already getting sticky cm. I feel like I didn't have any dry days. I had one day of spotting at the end of af, but it was more like sticky cm with blood clots. Then I went stright into sticky cm.
