History: my 77 year old mom went to the ER after escallating upeer right abdomenal pain was so severe she couldn't stand it. Admitted her to the ER. High pulse, but BP not bad. Severe pain. Elevated amylase, but not lypase. Intial thought was pancreatitis. Ruled out. Blld work indicated liver, gall bladder, etc. were fine. Barium enema revealed nothing abnormal. Pancreatic cancer was the next thought - ruled out after whatever the super CAT scan they did was. Went home and was on and off pain meds with pain lessening over time. Pain started coming back and she finally went to a family practitioner for a complete once over. Thought of kidney ptosis came in. Pain was worse laying down than sitting or standing. Dye film while upright revealed a very slight drop in right kidney, but nothing to suggest ptosis. All organs looked normal according to radiology. This is puzzling and disturbing. Any thougts on the next direction we should take?

I'm sorry that your mom is in so much pain. I hope you find some answers. My pain is usually on my side or back. I don't know what upper abdominal pain would be. Maybe stomach? I had a barium swallow, which is the other end, and they told me I had esophageal reflux. That came with stomach pain. What else does the doctor suggest? Maybe a second opinion.
