Since about 4 months old, we noticed our DS was crossing his eyes from time to time. Friends and relatives said there was nothing to worry about. Some said they did and exercises cured the issue, some said eyedrops were the answer. Some grew out of it. Our pediatrician never showed concern and said to take him to a pediatric ophthalmologist at 8 months if it does not stop.

So we did, at a little after 8 months, and the answer was he has hyperopia that is causing the eye crossing. The answer, he needs POWERFUL eyeglasses or the crossing might become permanent over time. His farsightedness carries a perscription of 8. The rims look cute when we tried them on, but we were warned that the lenses will be VERY thick and will cause a coke-bottle magnification effect on his eyes.

Has anyone out there gone through this? We are thinking about getting a second opinion. We just want him to grow up healthy, but we would be lying if we said this was not upsetting. Seeing eyeglasses on a baby isn't natural Crying or Very sad

Yes I know what you mean! I just had my daughter diagnosed with severe farsightedness....and the answer isn't glasses: it's pediatric contacts. I'm sorry no one got to answer this post sooner, but how is your baby doing now? Some optetricians don't know about these contacts and almost everyone I've talked to has never heard of letting babies and toddlers wear contacts, but there it is. I put my daughter's in every day and night.

Try to find a good pediatric optometrist and ask how contacts can help....I know how you feel....the first doctor I took my daughter to would have had to wear glasses a 3rd of an inch thick and that was only a 3rd of what she really needed, plus contacts can correct a lot of things glasses can't.

Best of luck!
