My mother has been hospitalized for 20 days and just came home, but is still sick and the doc's don't know why this happened or how. She has no neutrophil count at all. They gave her neupogen for 14 days, but still no neutrophils. She often got very high fevers, as high as 104. She has had rheumatoid arthritis for close to 18 years. They now think it may be lupus. This all came on without any warning. She was never sick before like this. Nobody has any clue why or how this happened. They did 2 bone marrow aspirates on her and thank god, it is not leukemia. How can you make ones neutrophils come back???? She is not allowed to eat any fresh vegetables or fruits and is not to go around any fresh flowers. They have her on voriconazole, cipro, prednisone. If anybody has any suggestions or experiences, please share them. I would really appreciate it.

Active User, very eHealthy
Neutrophils
Are needed for infection fighting...Thus why they checked for leukemia.

Did they give you a reason for checking for lupus besides the neutrophil count? Did they do ana? Sed rate? Double stranded dna? C reactive protein? Single stranded? Check for anemia?

What other symptoms does she have?

There are a lot of questions I would be asking here...And I would take a long look at her medical history!

Just my $.02 worth,
