Q: Baby Sleep Disorder?

My 13 month old has been doing a weird, kind of a trance thingy to go to sleep. She doesn't do it at night but she does it thru out the day. She will cross her legs, she makes fists, she squeezes what ever she can, she does leg lifts, and she becomes sweaty, red patches in her face and head, and she twists her mouth, she will do this for a while until she falls asleep. we try to stop her and we try talking to her but she is in her own world and she becomes upset if we interrupt her and will cry angrily. Help?! Is this a disorder I don't know about. She has been doing this since she is about 3-4 months old. She will also pinch herself really hard to the point of scratching and sometime making her skin bleed a bit. She does this to her lower back on the sides right above her butt chicks. The doctor just says that this is her way of soothing herself to sleep but she doesn't do it at night, and the pinching the doctor says she likes touch. I am worried.

Sounds kind of like a temper tantrum. My baby would bang her head on the railing of the crib until I freaked out and got her out. Now, she figured out that hurting herself makes ME feel bad.
Whenever she hears the word 'no' she will start banging her head on anything near her. If nothing is around, she will hit herself in the head and pull her hair. A new thing she has discovered is to pinch her tuti.
She doesn't want to stop playing for me to change her pants, so she gets mad at me and starts pinching her tuti.
I thought something was wrong for a while, then I just began to ignore the tantrums. They still happen, just not as much.
Try ignoring the rituals and maybe she will stop. Try putting soothing music on and just shutting the door and walking away.
Hope this helps.
