Q: Allergies & Sinusitis - Have Only One of the Usual Sympt

I have a large number of allergies - pollens, molds, animals, dust mites, and many foods, and my doctor has diagnosed me with chronic sinusitis. I learned of the allergies through skin prick allergy tests, and my experience supports this, too.

The thing that I'm writing about is that I only have one symptom - sinus pain. It's horrible pain a lot of the time, and increases when in the presence of allergens - when I eat something I shouldn't have or are in a wet or moldy environment, for example.

What I'm writing about is that I lack all the traditional allergy symptoms - I never get watery or red eyes. I never sneeze. My nose is always clear (though my allergist can see moisture when he looks in my sinuses). I can inhale clearly through both nostrils. I never get skin rashes. Just this PAIN and occasional sinus infections.

Everywhere I look up information on allergies, I see the above symptoms listed. So my question is what is going on that I'm not having the normal symptoms of allergies?

I'm hoping for more than "people react differently". I'm certain there is some knowledge that can be gained from this unusual reaction that can help me come up with ideas to find out what is going on and reduce the pain.

There is more than one sinus cavity in the skull ... so where exactly do you experience the pain? Behind the eyes? Above the nasal cavity?

The pain is an inch or two into my head on either side of my nostrils. When it's feeling worse, it also hurts behind the eye region, and a little behind the forehead area.

The nasal cavity connects directly to the nose, but is not part of the sinuses. The four sinuses each have left and right halves and are defined as:

# Frontal Sinuses - above your eyes, just behind the forehead.
# Maxillary Sinus - to the side of the nose, and below the eye, just above the upper teeth, below the eyes and in back of the nose at the top of the throat.
# Ethmoid Sinus - between the eyes (actually within the spongy ethmoid bone).
# Sphenoid Sinus - WAY back in the head, far behind the eyes, above the throat (in back of the nasal cavity). This sinus is just forward of the brain case, making complications here quite serious.

Here's a visual:

Of the four, which one(s) would you say it is?

Thanks for the link. The constant pain is in the Maxillary Sinus. That's the primary place, and there's a shadow of discomfort in the Frontal Sinuses.
