Birth Control Pills and Crying? Posted: 09-11-07 19:28pm
Can anyone else relate to me? I've been
with my boyfriend for a year and almost
two months...we are sexually active and
are very close with eachother. He's a
GREAT boyfriend and would never do
anything to intentionally hurt me. But
about a week before my placebo week he can
just look at me weird (and it doesn't even
have to be in a mean way) and i will just
start crying! He doesn't
understand...could this just be PMS or
could it be my bc that adds to the
situation? And how do i try and explain
this to him? I've tried telling him it not
that hes doing something wrong its just me
and its just that time of month...! His
response was "well i don't think all girls
are like this a week before 'their time'
". I just don't know how to explain
it....any advice would be great and any
explanations would also be greatly
appreciated! THANKS SO MUCH!

It is normal, unfortuantely. Perhaps a
different pill might help you if it
bothers you too much. You can talk to your
doctor about it.
Tell your bf that it is normal and he'll
have to be extra sensitive at that time.
Flowers and
chocolate always help. Explain that you're
irrational and you know it and he will
just have to bear with you.

Birth control pills are pumping extra
estrogen into your body. During the
placebo week, you might be able to feel
those effects more. It sounds like just a
hormonal thing.
I have an IUD and had that problem for a
while. Could be because it made me bleed
for 6 (almost 7) months straight and I was
just an emotional wreck because of that

(well i actually just started a new pill,
i was on Junel Fe 1/20 and then wasn't on
insurance anymore so i went to planned
parenthood and they didn't have Junel so
now i'm on microgestin which she said was
the same thing. I qualified to get the
three months free because of my income and
then also had to send a application sorta
thing in to the state to see if i qualify
for getting it free for the rest of the
year. I haven't recieved anthing in the
mail back to the state stating that i am
or am not qualified. So if i was to
switch, do you think i would still be
covered and could still get it for free?)
With that said..i haven't gottin' to the
placebo week of this pack yet (the new
pills). So i am at least going to give it
till the end of this pack to see if its
any different from Junel...I HOPE IT IS!

Well no one can tell if it will be
different for you, I hope for your sake
that it's better.
And who knows what is covered and what
isn't. Insurance is bogus. but the good
thing is if you can get the actual doc
visit for free or reduced, they may be
able to prescribe you with whatever pill
you want (even if it's not covered)
most generic bcps (like junel or
microgestin) are actually pretty cheap. I
have to pay full price for mine and it's
about $50 for three months. More than it
should be, I know, but I can handle that
price. I couldn't afford the loestrin
version, too pricey.
PP will probably help you out with this.
If it turns out you aren't approved, or
want to switch to something not approved,
just try and get them to prescribe a brand
that is cheaper. Docs are usually pretty
good about that.

Well if i am approved...i get whatever it
is that i want for free. And i don't think
they have a lot of expensive bcp's because
of that reason. I would get the yearly
exam free (just like if i had insurance),
get my pills free, the morning after pills
free (if for any reason i needed them).
The nurse told me that i would get
anything and everything for free as long
as it has to do with parenting/preventing.
Like for example STD testing would be
covered...

So you just started taking this different
kind of birth control from the clinic?
You need to ask someone if the estrogen
levels are the same. This new pill could
have a little more, making you more
emotional right about when your period is
about to start. Your body produces more
during that time on it's own, plus your
birth control estrogen levels get higher
each week until the sugar pill week.
Just throwing that out there.
I think that since you are getting the
free ones, you should continue taking
those for 3 months and give your body a
little time to adjust. If you still feel
like an emotional train wreck during that
week, you may want to consider asking
about a lower estrogen pill.
Or, if you get approved for free birth
control, no matter what.. you may want to
look into the Mirena. It worked for me,
anyway.
I felt crappy for about 6 months but now I
don't have any spotting or anything at
all. The best thing about it is that it
can be removed whenever I want to-if I
decide I want to try for another child.
And I will be fertile as soon as it is
taken out. You don't have to worry about
antibiotics messing them up or worry about
forgetting to take it either.

Well i believe the levels are the same if
thats what the 1/20 is? (Junel Fe 1/20)
She specifically asked me if it was 1/20
or 1.5/20 so she knew what to put me on...
and the migrogestin is what she gave me.
Remembering to take the pills on time
isn't a problem at all. The boyfriend has
his phone alarm set for 11pm and we are
always together at that time and if for
some reason we aren't he will call or text
me and let me know if i didn't remember to
take it already.
As for antibiotics: i don't get sick very
much. I've been sick once in the past year
and that was a UTI! (ahh that was just a
blast...NOT!!!)
