I have a Hepatitis B virus. It is sexually transmitted. If i decided to have sex with my boyfriend will condom safe him from being infected, because i am a virgin and the condom may break.

Any sugestions? are there other way of protection or high quality condoms which wont break?

thank you

I am sorry to hear your health problem. The first thing you need to ask your boyfriend is if he had HB shots. I would think he did in the first few months of his life if he was born in this country. If so, there is nothing for you to worry about. Condom is still a good idea for other STD. He sould be immune from hypertitas B.

My hubby has HB. We found that out when we were married for 8 years. I was pregnant at the time of discovery. Imagine that. Two lifes were in question. Luckily I didn't catch it from him although we had sex for 8 years. I had three rounds of HB shots as soon as the baby was born. The baby had three rounds of shots too. We are immuned for life. We don't use proctection when we have sex.

That was a good answer.

The only thing I want to add is- you being a virgin has nothing to do with how you can catch or transmit STD's.

Totally agree. Many people have HB don't know how they got it including my hubby. He was a virgin when we were married and never strayed (I 100% believe in him). The common theory is blood transfusion by mosquitoes.

Anyway, the reasons are not important in your and my relationships. The important thing is protect yourself and your loved ones. Wear protection or celibate until you are totally sure both of you are safe to each other.

Thank you for your advices. The thing is that he has not had the shots yet and he is going to have it soon. I just wondered what if we have sex before he is immune...

Julia, in your case you are lucky. but as i know if man is infected it does not transmit to women easily, but if wonem has HB then its the opposite...

Even using condom is still risky i guess as it may break, especially when having sex with a virgin, like i am.

What u think about this?

From what I know of sexually transmitted diseases, it is harder for a man to catch from a female no matter what it is.

Secondly, being a virgin does not make a condom more likely to break. It's all about using it correctly.

Personally, knowing that Hep. B is preventable once he gets the shots, I'd stay away from sex until I knew he was safe.

Personally I would stop having sex. That's what we did. Life is a lot more important than having a few moments of high. We didn't have any sex for about a year until I gave birth and got my second shot. According to the doctor, after the second shot it's safe to have sex. The third one is a booster. My husband found out HB because he tried to take a life insurance policy to protect me and the baby. What's better than stop sex to protect both of us. If you love him and don't want to have regrets later, don't have sex now. As a virgin, it's probably not that hard to calibate.

Thanks again!

Julia, I totally agree with you. but I am little confused, because according to the doctor i went to, he said its safe to have sex after 3 shots, when the immune system is ready.... may be he was not competent enough...

are u sure two shots are enough and safe to have sex?

I have no experience with it, but I would always trust the doc.

"Two shots is safe" is what my doctor told me at the time. I would check with your doctor again. Listen to your doctor, not me though. Maybe ask the doctor to do a blood test after two shots to see if the Hep B antibody is active or not. Once it's active enough, it's safe.

After 7 years, I ask my doctor every couple of years to run blood test to see if the antibody is still active. If it weakens, I need a booster. If the shots were given at birth, it stays strong through life, but since I got it at 31, I was told it's only good for 7 years. But after 12 years, my antibody is still strong.

Please don't post in all caps.
Hep B is NOT just transmittable by sex, so there are many ways the Original Poster could have contracted it. However, it is also transmittable by sex as they stated, so they wanted help on how to prevent transmission.
