Hi, I am hoping there s someone that can offer some advice. I am 30 years old and 125 lbs. Every since I had my daughter in 1999- I have terrible back pains. L4 and L5 are bulging the doctors says. I am skinny so I feel pain more, so he says. My neck hurts and has to be popped during day. All the muscles in my back knot up and throb and my boyfriend has to pop my back twice a day to relive some relief. I feel like l4 and l5 are bone on bone and when I wake in morning is terrible it feels like when i lay on back there is a hole that needs to be on special pillow or something. I bought a good bed doesnt help. Now the pain is on my right buttock- my boyfriend kneads it and says it is muscle, to me it hurts in the bone and radiates down right leg. My toes and fingers feel numb and tingly every so often. I dont know if this has anything to do with it but i have to pop my fingers or they wont work right and my toes pop when i move. My ankls and wrists pop everytime moved in circular direction.
I have had several Mri's and just think more is wrong with my back. I take muscle relaxers, Percocet, Inflammatory. I also have Tens Unit
I wonder if I dont have some form of arthritis along with other back problems> I should not be in this much constant pain with degenerative disk disease as diagnosis. Thanks for any advice. Rebekkah
Oh I am set up to go to a pain clinic, i dont know much about these places or what they have except injections in back- What does this do?

Dear Rebekah,

I'm sorry that you're experiencing so much pain. To check out the possibility of arthritis, you need to see a rheumatologist and request diagnostic exams.

Just consider that seeking elief for the pain via pain management will continue throughout your life,. Have you considered taking action and changing lifestyle? I've known people who've become addicted to Percocet as a result of injuries ... and you might want to consider the road less traveled (ie. exercise and therapy). Are you open to these suggestions?

I would highly recommend that you seek a second opinion regarding the pain in your back.

A pain management doc CAN do amazing things if done properly AND your back responds.

The end of April I had my first epidural injection from my PM doc. I frankly did not expect to see any improvement. Thankfully the epidural cortisone injection did help, and I am convenced that my doc make the injection in exactly the right spot.

Take care.

Let me know how things go.

Regarding mattresses - A "regular" mattress is impossible for me to sleep on. I also tried Select Comfort and that did not work. What works for me is a twin sized air mattress from Aero. Thank goodness for it.
