Q: Question Diagnosis What Questions to Ask Cardiologist

My 16 year old son started having strange symptoms almost a year and a half ago. first thing he noticed was a slight occasional tremor in his hand. Had an episode in school almost blacked out and felt as if his heart momentarily stopped and then began racing. He proceeded to get a strange rash over his body in places was given a steroid to take. The rash still lingered and going back to the doctor yielded no diagnosis. Not long after this rash disappeared he started having fainting episodes. Back to the doctor, had an echo was "normal". Then an appointment with a cardiologist who diagnosed neurocardiogenic syncope. Blood pressure would go up and down. Given atenolol and steroid, told to increase fluid and salt intake. Time passed and troubling symptoms did not get better. He once was active could go from sun up to sun down. Fatique was debilitating and still is. The cardiologist did another echo, this time the mild mitral prolapse was found with slight leaking. My son likes to lift weights but when he does now his heart beats so hard you can see his chest move with each beat. He had a couple of irregular heartbeats 2 days in a row. Cardiologist at last visit decided to take him off the atenolol. He is not able to withstand much physical activity still, and has felt like he is about to faint , and almost collapsed after running for a few minutes. He also has exercise induced asthma along with regular asthma. He feels like the cardiologist is not taking him seriously. I have read that sometimes asthma and mitral valve are diagnosed when indeed it is cardiomyopathy, which was suspected in the beginning. I need help to know what questions to ask the cardiologist and what can be done to be absolutely sure it is not something more serious than mitral valve. I am concerned that when he has gym and physical strength and training at school that something bad might happen to him. I know this is a lengthy post but I need some suggestions. thank you

Hi, jdytlbt. I just came across your post when I was researching something else. How is your son? I just wanted to ask because I was a teenager with a heart problem (atrial fibrillation) and I can definitely relate to what you are going through. It can take a long time to get answers, and I hope by this time, you have some more information on what is going on with him. Take care!

HOW IS HIS DIET
I came across your post and I was interested in his diet
Does your son eat a good diet.
Is he taking any supplements and or other medications?
Also - did he have a stress echo? Or just an echo?
If you could let me know this would be really important information.
Has he been tested for diabetes?

pacemaker issues
Can trauma such as a fall cause a pacemaker to shift in the body requiring surgery to reposition it?
