Q: Gall Stones, Gall Bladder Removal Needed? No Symptoms

2 weeks ago I went to the hospital with acute abdominal pain. Seemed to start in the middle, then moved to the right side. I had an attack of acute pancreatitis 10 years ago. No cause was found. Emergency doctor ordered an abdominal ultrasound which showed gall stones. Initially he was going to send me home with pain killers and have me see a surgeon on Monday (this was Friday). He then said he wanted to do a CT scan as my gall bladder and ducts didn't look irritated or inflamed. He came back and told me it was my appendix, and scheduled me for emergency surgery. The surgeon removed my appendix via laperascopically (sp?). The pain was gone. However, he wants me to have my gall bladder removed in 6 weeks. He said that often when you have appendix, it is a pre-cursor to gall bladder attack? And that if I get a gallstone stuck in a duct it can cause serious problems. Has anyone ever heard of removing a gall bladder with gall stones without a person having any symptoms? And why wouldn't he have removed the gall bladder when he removed the appendix? (More money for 2 surgeries?) He said I was lucky the emergency doctor did the CT scan as my appendix was in bad shape and would have burst by Monday. So...do I get the gall bladder removed?

hello,
make sure you need this removed, because you already removed a major organ. get a second opinion. i just had my gulll bladder removed on thrusday. At home to recover. I had like three opinions before any thing. but I still have my appendix. think about it and go to another doctor. good luck.

I did have pain about a year and had two stones.
please replt if any concerns.

I Am Having the Same Dilemma
I found I have some small gallstones but because I dont have acute symptoms only a bit of discomfort now and then, I feel reluctant to take the gallbladder out. I have been recommended by 3 surgeons to go ahead and do it because you dont really need to gallbladder and you can run the risk of a gallstone escaping and getting stuck somewhere only to cause extreme pain and perhaps complications. In the case a stone gets to the pancreas one can even die from it. However, I have spoken to someone who has done gallstone flush with apparent success so I read up about this on the internet and see that many seem to think it works well. But.. there is always the element of risk that a stone on its way out can get stuck. I guess its just a risk one has to decide to take or not. I am going to see a Naturopath tomorrow and get her point of view and will then make my final decision. I will be interested to hear from you as to what decision you came to or anyone else who had the same situation and how they came to the decision they made on what to do in the end.
Thanks
