Q: Pill Only Sex... Safe?

My girlfriend is talking to her doctor about getting on birth control pills and I was wondering if we are safe to have sex using only the pill. For peace of mind, i'd love to use a condom, but all condoms cause me to lose my erection so condoms are right out. Can I ejaculate inside of her without having to worry about her getting pregnant?

Most pill manufacters and doctors will tell you you are safe after one full month of taking the pill at the same time everyday. So you should be ok after a month.

Keep in mind that tummy upsets and anti-biotics can affect the pill so if that happens use a condom for the next 7 days.
Hope that helps.

It takes three months for the pill to be its full 98% effective. But, that is if she takes it at the same exact time everyday and does not miss any. Ideally if you do not want a baby, then use condoms. And if you find that you cannot, then maybe use foam or a diaphram or something else to cover the 2%. Good luck.

Rolling Eyes the only advice you should use is the advice given to your girlfriend when she gets the pills as each type can vary. She should get a leaflet giving her all the info which you should both read. Condoms are not as effective contraception as the pill, but they will give protection against stds.

Amber is right. All of the pills do vary. Condoms are more effective than the pill (assuming they do not break!) but in the event that they may break, then the pill is definately going to be a good idea! But, all b/c pills take a full three months to be 98% effective.

I have been on the pill for 3 years now. I started having sex again about 3 weeks after I started on it, it does not take 3 months to be effective, it takes about a month. I believe doctors recommend waiting until you're on your second pack of pills. My boyfriend and I do not use condoms, and I have never gotten pregnant. I would not worry too much if I were you, the pill is very effective.

Well I am glad that you have not gotten pregnant, but I don't believe that warrants telling other women not to worry. Bottom line if you do not want kids, then use a back up method also. I have been on the pill for ten years.
As for the three month thing, that was straight out of my doctors mouth, but since no one believes it I am not going to answer that question anymore. Hopefully you are all right and I am wrong since people are choosing to not use condoms after only one week. I hope that none of you get any unwanted surprises. Good luck to all.
