Q: Spinal Anesthesia For Cerclage

I had a cervical cerclage performed yesterday. They decided to give me a spinal anesthetic to numb me. I had read up on it beforehand, and it didn't sound too bad to me. But when they actually done it, I think I almost passed out. They stuck me with the needle at least 5 or 6 times (because she didnt inject it in the right spot) and I was in pain. I got so nauseous and almost puked. Everytime she stuck me, I felt it like they hadn't even numbed me first with the lidocaine or whatever. Then, I could feel the numbing fluid (whatever it is) slowly being injected into my spine. That also hurt pretty bad. I sat there for about 10 minutes until she finally got it right. It was ice cold in the room when I went in, and after she was done, I was sweating and my heart rate was flying.

I didn't even feel them do the cerclage, though, so that was good. But after they were done, they kept me in the recovery room for about 45 minutes, and then they were pushing me to walk...I barely could. Then, after helping me get dressed, they made me sit in a chair in the hallway until I could urinate. It took about 3 hours after sitting there that all my feeling came back and I could urinate. After the feeling came back, I had the worst muscle pain in my calves. I guess this is from walking and giving myself muscle cramps without knowing it (because I was still numb). It just doesn't seem like they should have hurried me like that. My legs hurt even worse today...I can barely walk.

Has anyone else had any of these experiences? Or any comments or suggestions?

Also, I've not had any bleeding or cramping (which I consider good)....except for a pretty big, nasty looking blood clot that was followed by no blood. Could this have been my mucous plug or could it have just been a blood clot from the surgery?

RE: That is not good.
I got a cerclage done a week ago and I am doin great now. When they did the spinal anesthetic to numb me it was a breeze. I was nervous as he prepare but it went in with no problems. The numbing slowly started when he removed the needle. I did not feel the cerclage either but as they came to the end of the procedure I got sick and vomitted. When I was completly done they sent me to recovery. I did have trouble in recovery; I kept feeling nausea and the cramping, but they gave me morphine and sure enough in time, it went away. I dont understand why they made you walk after. They asked me if I can wiggle my toes, and I showed them when the numbing went away. The doctor had also put a bedside folie in me (the tube that goes down into a bag so you can urinate without leaving the bed) at the end of the procedure. They did not want me walkin right away. When I was being sent home the nurses and doctor said bed rest and only to get up for the bathroom. Since I have been resting with very little walking I have not seen any bleeding(only during recovery and a little when the folie came out) or had any cramping.

I hope you are doin ok because that experience sounded terrible.
