My mom has lung cancer was diagnosed 4 yrs ago,has not gotten really bad until the last couple of months and i have looked everywhere else for ideas and suggestions.she is currently takeing ativan for her panic episodes she has due to how bad her breathing gets and shortness of breath, she has a albutrial inhaler, oxygen that she has to have on almost constantly, she takes musinex for her phlem problems she has and a nebulizer..my question is are there any other medications or treatment out there that might help her with her phlem it literally takes all her energy and breath away from her when she does start to cough and along with trying to get the stuff out it makes it worse for her to breath.
Now her nurse says she could try this patch out that is suppose to help with the problem she has with all this phlem the name is "Transderm Scop" now she has tried this and it really don't seem to help her in my opinion it got a bit worse so she stopped and told the nurse about it,so now they got her a new inhaler and that does not seem to be working either..so i am just wondering if anyone has an idea or suggestion of something they have tried or even been told about that works for treating these sorta of problems..any ideas or opinions would be great.
Thank You

Hi!
You can ask her doctors about mixture that contains Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide Guaifenesin. I can also give you a list of a few expectorans Ammonium chloride, Benzoin compounds, Guiphenesin, Ipecacuanha, Menthol, Sodium benzoate.
Before you decide to give your mum any medicine don't forget to consult her doctors.
Hope I helped you a little!

Thank you for posting a reply with some ideas, and i do have a couple more questions that maybe you or someone can touch a little on it.
Now as for expectrans is there anything that is really good that might compare to how the mucinex? as of right now that seems to help her a little bit and i am wondering if theres something else out there that might work along with the mucinex that can be taken either togather or a certain period of time after takeing the mucinex?
I was just curious if you might have some ideas that would go well with what she is takeing at the moment meaning the mucinex...and you said you could list some things for me i would be greatful if you would do so.
However since i am not a medical person the terms you use really confuse me so i have to google them to see what they are.
But if you can give me some more ideas and list some things that you think may help i will pass that info along to her Doctor/Nurse.
Thank You Very Much.

Hi!
I can suggest you to ask about mucolytics(carbocystein, tyloxapol), medicines that break down or dissolve mucus. They can be used to treat chest condition with excessive and thickened mucus secretion together with expectorants.
There are some other things that can make elimination of mucus easier: increased intake of liquids, vitamins, physical therapy(vibrations, percussion and postural drainage).
Mucinex contains guaifenesin, one of the substances i mentioned in the previous post.
Waiting for your post!

Try eating raw garlic clove, it is a natural anti-fungal / anti-biotic / expectorant, and it works wonders.
