We burp, belch and fart an average of 12 times a day. But why do we have gas? And what is intestinal gas?...the basics here....
Intestinal gas forms from two main sources - swallowed air and bacteria in the intestine. Plus, learn which factors to avoid to decrease the likelihood of gas....
How much gas is normal? Usually symptoms of gas and flatulence are more bothersome than serious. But learn when you should seek help for excessive gas here....

It doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes when my bf and I have sex, I will start to orgasm and before I peak it becomes painful cramps in my lower stomache (I think more on my lower left side). Sometimes the cramps will last for 10 mins or longer and I feel like I can't move. Usually after this happens I will start bleeding lightly the next day and it eventually actually starts my period. The blood is much darker than my menstrual cycle normally is though- sometimes almost black. I usually bleed for a week or so and the pain can remain vague for a day or two. There are no other symptoms.
Do you know what this could be a sign of?

It sounds like a sign of sex and orgasm causing uterine contractions (which is normal) which then causes your period to start. That's why it only happens occasionally. Perhaps holding off from sex when you know your period is due can prevent this pain. I don't think it's anything harmful.
