Numbness ... Is This From Back Pain? Posted: 09-03-07 17:09pm
I am 29 yrs old - I had a major car wreck
when I was 14 yrs old ... other than that
I have never had any injuries or
accidents. From my accident I escape with
only a couple of scratches & bruises (
I was so lucky, 3 other people from
different cars were killed )
I have a little bit of lower back pain, a
little bit of right shoulder & neck
pain. When I say "a little", I mean it
just annoys me from time to time but I can
go jogging, sit, stand, basic yoga...etc.
with no problems... Anyways, for about 1
week now I have been feeling a numbness in
my left foot & hand -- meaning from
tips of toes to around the ankle area -
and the tips of my fingers to around my
wrist area. I don't know if numbness is
even the word to describe the feeling it's
almost as if my hand & foot are about
to go to sleep - no burning or pins &
needles feelings.
At first I thought I had a blood clot and
even went to the doctor and had a
ultrasound done - they said I had great
veins & circulation - and then they
looked at me like I was crazy & making
up stuff. yikes!
I just started having anxiety too ... just
last Tuesday (1 week ago) my family doctor
put me on Wellbutrin, and on that day I
wasn't feeling that numbness (or whatever
is going on with my limbs) I almost feel
like the Wellbutrin has been worse, I
don't feel any better either from the
anxiety.
I don't know if I am stressed out or
what... I'm getting ready to move to
Chicago for a new job - by myself. I am
very excited about this! Maybe I'm
stressing over this... ok I know this last
part belongs in the depression/ anxiety
thread.
If anyone can help me or have any advice I
would greatly be appreciative!

Hi Stray Light ..
How are you feeling today ? Stress can
cause lots of different problems, with
backs and numbness, so what I can to do
for you, is split this topic in both Back
pain and Stress and axniety forums ... as
it maybe related in both.
You take care, and relax

Stray light, I agree with Ginger, I often
get numbness in my extemities from back
problems. Have you ever seen a
chiropractor? I think this would help. You
are probably tensing up from stress. That
causes muscle pain. You are going to LOVE
Chicago! I grew up there and just went to
visit last week. My daughter is moving
there this Fall, too.
Wellbutrin is a really good med, give it
some time, but if it makes the anxiety
worse, which sometimes they can , talk to
your doc about a different kind. It is
really common to try different meds before
you find the right one for you, or maybe
the dosage needs adjusting.

I just started seeing a Chiropractor for
about 2 weeks now... Ive had about 4
sessions... when she pushes on particular
spots on my lower back, I just want to
cry, it hurts so bad. I asked about
herniated (sp?) disc and spinal
problems... but she doesn't think it is
any of those. So far I feel a tiny bit
better after each session... I would
rather feel a "tiny" bit better than no
improvements at all. Also, Ive been doing
stretches & an ice pack on my lower
back - I think these help.
thanks for the advice!
I can't wait for Chicago!!!

Hey guys ....
thanks Metalcrystal ... you're advise is
spot on ... glad we had the chance to work
together at long last...
Stray Light ..... go careful with
Chiropractors, I don't want to speak bad
about them, but sometimes all you need is
gentle excersises, small movements,
rocking motions and holding positions, to
strengthen the muscles surrounding the
area, Chiropractors can at times
'aggravate' the area, and then inflame it,
which causes the restriction with
movement, cos it's tensed up.
Stress again, targets an area, and then
tenses, causing pain, sometimes in the
shoulders, arms legs and of course, backs
...
I hope you can see this pattern, and hope
you can learn to relax, and become stress
free ...
As for Chicago .... I've never been to the
US, and hopefully one day I will visit
..... and love it as much as you guys ...
You both take care, and speak to you again
real soon
