i continue to have diarrea, and can't
retain water or gatorade. In addition, i
continue to have a major fever, my body
will sweat uncontrollably, then i will
turn to freezing cold and shaking. since
i can not hold down food or water, should
i ask for an IV? I'm very nervous about
seeing a doctor in mexico and even worse
having a shot in mexico. are there any
alternatives? shoudl i be concerned about
the shot?

According to your symptoms (diarrhea and
fever) you could be experiencing some type
of intestinal infection. Most importantly,
when treating intestinal infections a
person needs to supplement the water and
electrolytes that are lost via diarrhea
and sweating. If there is no vomiting you
can supplement water and electrolytes
through the mouth but if you are vomiting
you may need intra venous infusions.
Antibiotics are not the first priority but
if the condition becomes worse they may be
requested. Probiotics (Lactobacillus)
could also be very useful.
