Severe abdominal pain under the right ribcage that moves towards the back is typical for gallbladder-pain. Gallbladder pain can be due to gallstones or a gallbladder infection. Both conditions are often present together at the same time. There are many other disorders that can cause abdominal pain such as a peptic ulcer, pancreatitis, appendicitis, cystitis, kidney stones, intestinal infections… Several diagnostic procedures can be requested to find out the reason for the abdominal pain:

1. Physical examination;
2. Blood analyses (blood count, sedimentation, liver status, kidney status, alpha-amylase, helicobacter pillory…):
3. abdominal ultrasound;
4. Gastroscopy;
5. Colonoscopy

You can visit your GP to request these diagnostics or an internist, if necessary.
