Q: Blood in mouth from throat or esophigus ?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 2nd, 2007
this past friday night about 8:00 pm just before eating dinner i thought i tasted blood in the back of my mouth, i just blew it off and went ahead and ate. after eating dinner i did not taste the blood anymore so later i went to bed. when i woke up the next morning i went to the bathroom and saw on my face that i had bleed from my mouth during the early night because a 3" puddle of blood on the bed was dry. i cleaned my mouth and got my wife to look in my throat for anything she could see, she saw nothing of conern. it is saturday and i went about my saturday buisness thinking and hoping that it was just a weird nose bleed. today i woke up on sunday morning and my daughter saw my face and told me that i had bled out my mouth again, this time examining throughly, i believe that the blood is coming from my throat or esophigus, not exactly sure which one? depending on which one, what could it be? doctor is closed labor day, i will go to see him on tuesday, just worried about what is going

It is very hard to locate from where exactly the blood is originating without seeing it (with a visual inspection). In your case, blood can originate from the mouth, pharynx (throat) or esophagus. You can visit your GP or an ENT-specialist if necessary to identify the original place of bleeding.
