hello! im new to this forum! The doctors have just prescribed me some risperdal (I think they think that im a bit schizophrenic!), but they didnt tell me anything about it. So I went to pick the drugs up from my pharmacy and i asked the pharmacist workin there what they were for and she just lent down and whispered in my ear that they were for my mood! Which didnt really help. When i got home i opened the packet and there was no leaflet inside telling me any information about them. So i decided to look it up on the internet and now im a bit scared of the side effects....particulary weight gain (with me being a self-concious teenage girl etc!). I just wanna know if anyone else takes this drug and what side effects they have and how severe are they?! And do the drugs help your symptoms alot?! Im too scared to take them!!!

I take 4 mg Risperdal and it helps clear my mind of all the thoughts I have. I have restless legs probably because of it. I have weight gain in my belly but it's not from overeating, because I don't eat more than I used to... I'm actually going to ask the pharmacist if the weight gain is because of appetite stimulation or other change in metabolism. But this might be also a result of me not being active enough. What symptoms do you have?

I gained 40lbs on risperdal. I felt like overeating.. just walking by at the sight of a bag of chips made me hungry. Keeping a strict diet was real hard. It worked though by fighting the symtpoms

good luck

My Thoughts On the Matter
Now I am going to be unrelentingly irresponsible and completely out of line:

You probably should get a new doctor if you have been prescribed risperdal in spite of the fact that you do NOT:
-experience auditory/visual hallucinations
-experience debilitating, potentially dangerous paranoid ideations
-suffer from delusions which pose a threat to yourself or others.

If a physician has put you on antipsychotic medication in the absence of any of the above mentioned symptoms.....then THEY need to be medicated because that is gross over-medicating and without any basis in modern medical literature.

P.S--- Doctors DO get perks for prescribing certain medications, most often from the pharmecutical companies themselves. Think about it.
