Q: Stump on ring finger 1st digit & nailbed frequently infected - c
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 2nd, 2007
As a teenager I lost the better part of my ring finger 1st digit. I lost the regular nail but have the nailbed growing out from the face of the stump. Its unsightly and sometimes the small cuticle gets infected as a result of knocks and something like a splinter getting between the nail growth and cuticle . Is it possible or recommended to remove the nailbed and have a rounded stump without this growth? Is it a complicated process? It will look cosmetically better for me.
Thanks you. Can send a picture if required.

If you experience frequent infections on this new nail you can consult aplastic surgeon about the possibility of its total removal.
