Q: Need Advice **and Some Hugs**

So today I woke up and my good old friend decided to come for a visit two days early. That would put me at a 23 day cycle. I have never had a 23 day cycle. What gives. So I have two questions.

1. Is there anything that would cause you to have a shorter than usual cycle? (Normally mine are 26 days)

and

So he has said to me a few times that he wants to go to the doctor and get checked out. We are not ready to go to the infertility doctor yet as we cant afford it and I really want to give it a good try (since our break) before we invest in that. So my other question

2. What kind of doctor can do a preliminary assessment on my husband that would more than likely be covered by insurance? A general doctor?

Also, I am thinking about going to a new OB/GYN doctor. The one I was referred to by two people in my office as well as my sister in law said that they have good doctors that specialize in infertility procedures. Does anyone know if they can prescribe clomid? Or does it have to specifically be an infertility or an RE doctor?
I am going to try to get a consult appointment, just to talk to them.

I was really hoping that we did it this month, and I have been pretty upset about it today. I know I shouldn't and should try to keep my mind off of it, but it is hard. I talked to my husband this morning about it and he tries to make me feel better, but sometimes he has a harsh way of doing it...kinda like buck up its not the end of the world. He said to me "can you at least try to not be so upset and depressed and try to be happy" Easier said than done honey!!!

I'm sorry. Sad ~BIG HUG~

First off, yes, a regular ob/gyn can prescribe clomid as long as they are comfortable doing so. Some can also do your dh's sa. However, it may or may not be covered by insurance. It is kinda up to wether or not they catch it or not, ya know? My ob/gyn could do pretty much all the testing. She referred me out because she knew I needed more then the basic's and she wasn't comfortable treating me. But, she could to the hsg's and rx all the meds, so I can assume your's does to.

I can totally relate to not being ready for the RE. I got my referral 3-4 weeks ago and still haven't made the jump. It's pricey. And when you are just hoping that 'this will be my month' it's hard to rationalize the money. And you guy's have only been 'trying' 2 months since you got the all clear, so I can see wanting to wait a few more months. But, it's a personal choice, and one that you might want to wait a week or two (when there is a little less of the hormones going on) to decide.

Did you do anything different this cycle? Supplements or anything?

Stupid question...are you sure it's af?

I'm sorry Star! Mcever pretty much covered all your questions. I just wanted to send some more hugs to you.

Also, Mc-I didn't realize that you had already gotten a referral to an RE. I hope that it happens for you soon too.

Sorry af showed her face. Are you sure it is af? I know that luteal phase defect can make you have a shorter cycle, or just ovulating early. Clomid is also good for luteal phase. Any ob/gyn can prescribe it for you. But, I think it is wise to have dh checked first.

Any doctor can set up a semen analysis for dh. That was the first thing we did, and our primary dr. set it up. It was thru a fertility clinic, but we didn't have to be "patients". Just go in and drop off the sample or do it in office. It was $100 without insurance at a very high end clinic in Michigan.

Good luck, I hope you feel better soon. Happy Labor Day.

So another question would be, what can be done for him if his sperm analysis comes back bad?

Is there something that can be added to his diet to help that?

I think I will start to look for a doctor for him to go to.

And yes I am sure it is af. She is here with full force. I have cramps and have clots (sorry tmi) which are painful. This is somewhat normal. The good thing is that I haven't had to take my pain meds for the cramps. Usually I can hardly get through the day without the meds, but this month it isnt so bad.

Thanks girls

Oh, star, I'm so sorry. Just remember that it is okay to feel sad, but the sadness should go away after a few days. The hormones don't help.

My cycles seem to range from 24 to 29 days and my lp ranges from 10 to 15 days, which is too much variation. I started taking additional B6 vitamin this cycle because I read that it can help the lp. I don't know if it is clinically verified or even if it will work for me, but I'm taking a dosage that is not harmful.

Sorry I can't help with the other questions since I haven't gone through any tests yet. I had heard, though, that the husband's PCP or urologist can order the SA.

Thats funny you say that about the B6. Up until this past cycle I was taking a b-complex every day. I stopped because I ran out of them and just kept forgetting to get more at the store. Maybe that is what messed my cycle up this month. I have been taking them again since I got home from Maine. So hopefully that will help. I also remember Volermos telling us that she drank green tea and pinaple juice up until she ovulated so I think I will try that this month as well.
