I am new to this but I have a question... My baby girl refuses to fall asleep unless she is being rocked in the chair... She is also only sleeping about 8-9 hours a day... Is this normal for a child her age and she does not seem to be sick... I have tried to just put her in her crib but she cries so hard it makes her puke so I am at a loss for what to do! Confused

it seems that she has got so used to being rocked to sleep that nothing else will do. you have to get her out of this routine and quick otherwise you'll end up rocking a 2 year old to sleep. it will take time and patience and some sleepless nights but it will work eventually. give her her dinner, give her a bath, a bedtime story and put her down with a juice, bottle, dummy, something for comfort. she will cry but dont go to her straight away. go in every 5/10 minutes to check on her. she will end up falling asleep. she will learn that this is the way to go to sleep now. it will get easier. good luck and i hope this really helps x

thats exactly what to do...the main idea is to get her into a routine...do the same few things every evening around the same time....lay her in her bed and when she cries its ok....babies dont die from crying...it will be harfdto listen to but it will stop. Check on her in 5 mins then wait 7 then wait 10 and so on and eventually she will get the idea of how to rely on herself to fall asleep instead of your arms...

i had this problem with my daughter a while back. she is 13 1/2 months now.

i would do the bedtime routine, then instead of rocking her to sleep i would put her in the crib and rub her back. after that started working i would do it less and less and just sit by her crib without touching her until she settled down and went to sleep. then i started leaving before she was fully asleep, staying a little less and less each time. but if she cried i would come back and sit by her crib but not touch her. now, i can put her in her crib wide awake after her bedtime ritual of washing up, kissing daddy and her teddies good night and reading a story, and she goes right to sleep. occasionally she will cry a little but i can go in and hug her and tell her go to sleep now and she will.

this took weeks and weeks to do but i didn't have the heart to just let her cry every time so i just did it my way. anyway, hope something here helps you. good luck!
