asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 30th, 2007
I have been shaking, having headaches, at night when its time for bed I take a tylenol pm to calm my body down to sleep , and when doing that I think my body forgets to breathe, because I realize im not breathing and have to start it on my own.For the last 3 days the headaches have come and gone they go away on their own after a few hours but the shaking while it stops when i sleep i think it usually lasts all day, like a constant anxiety attack, no one can seem to figure out what is wrong went to the er, where they check my thyroid and said it was fine but they didnt know what was causing my shaking, A pharmacist said to take a vitamin b complex vitamin which i have but the shaking is still there, please help anything my doctor could even look for would be helpful.

Anxiety and Stress Answer A3291
According to the present symptoms (shaking, headache, fear that “body forgets to breathe” during sleep) you might be experiencing some type of anxiety disorder such as panic disorder. Nonetheless, all possible organic disorders with the same symptoms mus first be be excluded.

Having a geadache is a common symptom for many disorders, most commonly sinus infection, eye disorders etc. for people your age, in their middle 20's. Beside anxiety and hyperthyroidism, shaking can be also due to a neurological disorder.

You can request examination from a neurologist to exclude neurological reasons for the shaking. Further, the presence or absence of a real breathing problem can be confirmed with auscultation and functional breathing tests (spirometry and peak-flow-metric). You can consult your GP about these.

If everything tests OK, the remaining possibility is that you are experiencing anxiety disorder. Fear during sleep sounds like a panic attack. Panic disorder is treated with Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) and psychotherapy. You can the consult a mental health doctor should you need to.
