Q: Questions On Backup Protection And the Patch

Hi everyone. I made the mistake of trying to skip my period this month (i didn't feel like dealing with pms due to how much stress i'm currently under with college) and much to my dismay, my period appeared this morning. This freaked me out so I contacted planned parenthood and the woman told me to continue taking my current pack of pills regularly, which I am. She also said to use backup protection for the rest of the month. Does this mean I can go without backup protection once april arrives and will my current period be shorter since I messed it all up? And can I expect my period to show up regularly when I take the green pills in my current pack? Normally it comes 2 or three days into the placebo pills....

Also, the cramping and pms I get has gotten 10 times worse since starting the pill. I can deal with the cramps, but the pms is almost unbearable. I'm so moody and emotional that I can't stand myself. I'm using ortho tri cyclen lo. I've been taking it for about 2 1/2 months, so will my body adjust to it soon, or should I ask the clinician if I can try another method? Is anyone using the patch?

Thanks for your help. Smile

Im using the patch, but am just starting my first patch of my 2nd month...So im not sure how much help I can be. So far its been great, no real symptoms that I can tell. I ight be moodier than usual, or more emotional...But I personally cant tell....
(i've been moody and emotional ever since my bestfriend (guy) started dating some girl, and now wants to go back to just friends with me...Lol)

ive loved it so far. My body has adapted well, no more break through bleeding or spotting...The first month was kinda a drag, basically had to pretend I was having my period the whole month..And be prepared for spotting etc (sorry, thats a bit gross)

you might want to consider using something else, I know some people really do have a change of symptoms by just switching to a different brand.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. Smile I think I may ask about the patch at my appointment next friday. Is the cost of the patch relatively the same as the pill?

I was on the patch and I freakin hated it!! But that is just me. I was on orth tri cylen- lo and it totally didn't work for me. I bleed three weeks out of the month (sorry to gross you out). You should always use a back up method if you do not want a baby, but in april you should be o.K. Just make sure that you take your pill at the same time every day. Your period could be heavier or lighter since you messed your pills up, but in my experiences it is usually the same.

Thanks you guys. Smile

yeah hotasfrick, my period is really screwed up due to taking my pills the wrong way, as in my period should have stopped by now and the cramps i'm still getting are terrible. Sad my boyfriend keeps teasing me that i'm going to have my period for 3 weeks. Lol i'm wondering if i'll get it again at the end of my current pack of pills once my hormones regulate themselves.
