Q: What Can Cause This Miscarriage?

Question I had a miscarriage a few months back, I was 11 wks. The doctor ordered an ultrasound and after looking over it, he told me I had lost the baby. He said that there was no placenta or yolk sac. Also, that the baby had alot of deformities. He said my body had created an inevitable abortion. I have tried looking this up, but I can't find anything on having a baby without a placenta. What would cause something like that. Chromosomes, hormones..? Has anyone ever heard of this?

Usually when something like this happens it's just a problem with the specific sperm or egg that created the baby. This can happen for so many reasons that it's really hard to say exactly what caused it. My guess is the chromosomes though.
