Hi! I have been diabetic for 16 years and I am now 27. I also have a lot of side affects from diabetes. I have gastroperisis, high blood pressure, and I get totally sick to my stomach if my blood sugar goes up or down too badly. I am currently trying to get in to see an endo but it might take a while. Tired of feeling like poop! LoL.

I have stomach issues aswell. My nerves dont work so i cant digest food at all. Ive just found out that the nerves in my bladder are not working now so ive just been to see someone and ive got to have a procedure....um lovely!!
Do u get pain in your shoulders when ure blood sugars hi.... or is that just me?

I was diagnosed with gastroperisis 10 years ago, but I haven't been taking medicine for it for about 8 years. I suppose I should get back on the meds to help with my stomach problems but some of the meds were making me feel so much worse, I feel better off the meds than on them.
I have also joined the American Diabetes Association message boards where there is a lot of diabetics posting messages. I think the pain in the shoulder is referred to as "hung shoulder" by most diabetics and doctors. I am not sure if I get the pain in my back and shoulders from this or not-all I know is I usually wake up sore as heck! My shoulders and my neck are usually the things that hurt.
Not trying to get too personal, but any problems in the female department? I was able to get pregnant the first try with my first child. We have now been trying again for almost 9 months with no success. I also keep getting infections that don't seem to go away no matter what they give me. It can also be painful at times. Sound familiar?

You are lucky with the first pregnancy! Ive been pregnant 3 times when i was 21-22. Miscarried the first. Had the second who is now 7. I was kept in hospital through the whole pregnancy and had her at 25 weeks! I wasnt awake when i had her they put me on a life support machine and kept me under for a couple of days. My 3rd. i was taken to court to have an abortion... i dont definitely agree with abortion... They won and i was ordered to be sterilized too. I am on long term antibiotics for all the bladder infections that keep happening!!! Thrush constantly....eeerggh!

I am 27 and live in the U.S. I have been pregnant once for sure as evidence of my son, lol. Unfortunately, I do think I might have miscarried a very early pregnancy due to uncontrolled highs and lows. I also keep getting yeast infections and nothing they seem to give me clears it up until I have been through several different medications. And then a month later, it's baacckk!! I have recently been looking into how to figure out paying for more and better health care without having health insurance. That is what is really bad about my situation. I do not have health insurance through my employer or the government, and I do not qualify for hardly any regular insurance due to all my pre existing condition. They want me to go 90 days without having to be seen by a doctor for any of my pre existing conditions, which is pretty much impossible for me. Since I have been diagnosed with depression I have to see the doctor regularly to make sure those medication levels are correct.
I feel stuck but I want to do something about it. I really want to have more children but the last time I saw my OBGYN she said I had a lot of "build up" in my plumbing and that we needed to take care of it or I would probably not get pregnant. She also said if I did get pregnant while in this condition it would not be a good environment for the baby with the infection and the fact that I am diabetic. So we are not trying until I feel that is taken care of. It scares me to think if I got pregnant right now what it could do to the baby.
I have also had one of my lung partially deflate for no reason. They couldn't tell me why it had happened. They actually thought someone (my husband, mostly! arghhh) had hit me hard enough for my lung to collapse. I did not have a single bruise or mark though and that was never the case! They also asked if I had fallen or been in a car accident but neither of those had happened. I had to have two chest tubes put in in a week and a half, and the pain is indescribeable. Diabetes, maybe. They did not know if it was related. They said diabetes can affect any organ so it could have had something to do with it.
Got any stories? I have rambled too long, lol.

Sorry i didn't reply sooner but i have just been discharged from hospital!!! I had to go in as i am swelling up with fluid and it is going in2 my lungs. The diagnosis if a failing transplanted kidney.
I cannot imagine being in your situation over medical finance.... That is very frightening really. In the UK you receive whatever you need..(if its within their budget!!) You see any doctors you need to..... I don't have a clue how you can get along with diabetes in your situation.

Your lung issue sounds like alot to cope with and i do feel for you... tubes are horrible!!

Ive been in hospital around 250 times in my life and just about received every procedure going!!! Tubes in EVERY part of the body. Ive been in ICU around 10 times. My most recent test was the most humilating yet. I had to have 2 catheters put into my bladder whilst they put a probe in the back end.......disgracing to say the least, then they tipped the bed in2 standing position with me strapped to it and put a funnel between my legs and told my i had 2 pee in a bucket whilst 3 people were just standing there watching me. I just couldn't do it!!!! I'm really close to all the nurses and everyone just laughed when i told them what i had to have done!!!!

What you have to think to yourself is that being diabetic you are lucky to have one child. Thats how i have to look at it. Shes a healthy girl and thats all i can ask for as so many things can happen to a baby of a diabetic mother. Sometimes i can find myself thinking that all these women seem to be able to pop them out without even wanting them, and its such a natural thing for a woman to do yet everything seems like such a struggle for me.

But i always say as long as i'm breathing i am ok!!!
What happens in the U.S about paying for insulin and stuff like that?????

So sorry to hear about your trip to the hospital. Are you doing ok? I have never had a transplant so I do not know hardly anything about them. What will they do now? Whatever they do, I hope that you get to feeling better.
Our country has a horrible health care system! I do not qualify for aid from the government unless I were to file for disability. If I go on disability I would make receive much less income than if I were working. I can't afford the difference in income for my family of four.
We have recently gotten some higher readings when checking my son's BG. I now feel like I don't want to have more kids because I feel responsible for them possibly being diabetic. It is hard. I love my son very much and I would never wish this kind of life on him, nor anyone else. I just feel sad that I am unable to have more blessings like my son that make life more enjoyable. I love the way being a mom feels and I want to spread it around to more kids! Lol. Maybe we could adopt one day when our finances are better and we are more settled in life. I've always thought that would be cool, ever since I was 8 or 9 I have talked of adopting. My parents were foster parents and I know there are a lot of kids who need homes. Like you said before, there are so many women that want kids but can't have them, and then you have women who pop them out left and right and don't want them. Sigh........

I forgot to answer your question about paying for my supplies.
I currently pay for all of my medication and anything else medical out of my own income. I do get discounted rates on a couple of my medications through the drug manufacturer's income based pay program. The problem with that is they only offer discount on name brand prescriptions and a lot of the time paying for the generic is cheaper than the discounted name brand anyways. I also try to find free glucometers that are sometimes offered at the pharmacy. Other than that, I am clueless! I think it plays in a part of not having really good control. I don't have the means to acquire all the necessary health care for my issues.
Sometimes I would really like to move to another country simply for better health care but my husband would never do it. So, I am currently trying to work on receiving my bachelors degree in Business Administration. I have a long way to go until I finish but am so excited! It will be so nice to be qualified for a decent job with benefits! Lol.

Listen... i'm being serious aswell... if u ever feel i am safe enough to give your address to me i will post you blood monitors, tests strips etc.... to you. They are all free to me so it's not a problem.
Well done on your studying, with everything else on your plate you must be worn out.
I had to claim disability as i have no chance of holding down a job. I tried my hardest. I spent a fortune on studying, and i became a beautician but i had to go for blood tests constantly, it just made my health worse and i was so upset as i am such an ambitious person and i spent so much time and money an building my own salon. But the difference is i am better off on what the government in England gives me!!!! They do look after ill people if you qualify.
I try and do home study courses now as i love learning and hate having nothing to do but clean a house!!
My parents have a house in the states... Florida, so i am always there and i love it but the health issue sounds awful.
Regarding the kidney issue theres nothing to do now but take a bucket full of drugs until the time comes for a transplant or dialysis....it's so scary. I am eligible to get a kidney and pancreas transplant. It sounds wonderful.... no more diabetes, but the problem is theres less chance of the transplants working than if you just have a kidney and its on the scale of having a heart transplant because it's a very complicated procedure. They have told me that in the first year there is a 1 in 10 chance of dying!!! So i'm having to weigh up the pros and cons.
I know if someone gave me a gun with ten bullets in and one would kill me i wouldn't risk firing it but i get every problem with diabetes so i know my futures bleak without the transplant.... so i don't know what to do!
I don't think you should be thinking the way you do about giving a child diabetes. It doesn't happen often and it's certainly not your fault...... But i completely understand about bringing anyone into the life we have. Also you have to consider the finance which is a terrible situation!
What insulin are you only the way?
