you just smile and say awww how cute you dont want to hurt them and besides how can you even think a baby isnt cute. all babies are cute.

Actually, I think lots of newborns and small babies are really unattractive/ugly. Some of my friends have had beautiful babies, while others have had pretty atrocious looking babies. I have never lied to any of these folks, but there's always something nice you can say -- "He's so peaceful!" or "She's such a great sleeper," for a non-crying baby, or "Isn't that a happy smile! Does he smile like that all the time? How wonderful!" or "What an adorable outfit!" or, "What beautiful, thick hair!" etc. Every baby has it's lovely points, but not all babies are lovely. That's just the way of the world, and the whole "every baby is cute" line is just not true, just as every adult isn't gorgeous. I don't see the point of lying to ourselves, but there's no point insulting people's children either.

a baby doesn't have to be pretty or perfect to be cute. they are still lovable when they look funny. it's their sweetness and innocence that makes them so beautiful anyway.

It's just like adults, everyone is quick to judge an adult they see and say things like 'oh they're so fat and ugly' but if its a baby no one says anything. Sure i've seen babies who perhaps arn't as pretty as others but in my opinion everyone is beautiful in their own way

here's a thought. maybe you are the ones with ugly babies and everyone's been lying to you. beauty IS in the eye of the beholder right? maybe you only think your kid is cute because it's your kid. lol
