Q: Breakthrough Bleeding

First off, let me say I do not think that I'm pregnant. I'm on hormonal birth control, have never missed a pill, and am very careful about when I have sex (i.e. I try not to around my supposed ovulations days, because I'm paranoid). I get my period very regularly, I always have, even before the birth control (which I'm on first and foremost for my PMDD).

My question is really purely so that if the birthcontrol *were* to fail I would be able to know as soon as possible, and get an abortion as soon as possible (because a) I'm 19, b) I don't want my own children ever and am currently saving up for getting my tubes tied, and c) I'm moving away from the US and the guy I'm seeing, so if I were to get pregnant we couldn't make it work). Would breakthrough bleeding occure randomly on any given day, or the week when I'm meant to get my period? I've already had a panic attack once because my period got lighter when I went on the pill but then I found out that it was actually just a symptom of the pill, and I just want to make sure that if I did get breakthrough bleeding, it wouldn't trick me into thinking it was my period.

I know this post makes it sound like I'm *expecting* to get pregnant, but I'm really, really not. It's just I'm quite OCD about knowing *exactly* what is going on with my body, and I'd like any info on this subject especially.

Thanks,
Resident paranoid girl. :p
