Q: Extreme Farsightedness

I have extreme farsightedness--my contact persciption is 22 in each eye. I usually wear contacts as opposed to glasses because I develop a sever case of dry eye when I read with the glasses for any length of time. But, as you can imagine, such thick RGP contacts aren't all that comfortable and often irritate my eyes. Vision-wise the glasses are better for straight-away vision but, of course, the contacts give better peripheral vision and create less distortions. Does anybody know, from a health perspective, whether it is better for someone in my situation to wear glasses or contacts? Various eye doctors have said that there is no real difference, but I'm skeptical.

In general, if there are any forum participants who have extreme farsightedness I would be interested to hear how they have dealt with discomfort caused by RGP lenses or problems caused by wearing thick glasses.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 7 prescription with astigmatism and strabismus (my eyes don't work together) Contacts or glasses correct the eye turn, but I gave up on Toric contact lenses last year because I have to strain to see with them and this causes aching around my eyes. I still haven't found comfortable glasses because there is so much weight on my nose. Not to mention that my eyes look huge in them.
