Q: Weird/annoying Skin Problem Around My Lips

OK, first it started off as dry lips, then the corners of my lips got dry too and of course with dry skin means pealing. so a tiny tiny piece of skin pealed off on the side of my lips. But then my lips would not stay hydrated. And I didn't always have my chapstick. So now I have chronic dry lips. But then the skin around my lips are itchy and they are now pale in color. I have darker skin so, the paleness around my lips are noticable. I have had this for about 2 months now. IT started offf as just a little pale, but now it is literally around my entire lips. And it won 't go away. The area where it is pale is sort of RAISED, so you can tell that is is there. I thought maybe it was a cold sore. So I kept trying different types of cold sore oitments, and medicated chapstick. ANd even hydrocortisone cream that I have. But no luck. What is this?? ANd how do I get it to go away. ARe there any over the counter products I can buy. I don't have insurance so I can't go to the doctor. ANd i've had this for 2 months, and it's getting worse i think. please help.

Hi Gcalma

Lips have funny skin, they as it's a different 'make up' from the rest of your skin .... I don't know what they are, but I get these myself during extreme hot weather, to cold weather, so I try and protect them all the time with lipstick , chapstick, lip gloss the bloody lot, and it's gotten better ... I also find keeping myself hydrated by drinking plenty of watery drinks and fruits, and not having so many salty things helps too ... give it a try and see how it goes .... doctors can help, but a pharmasits will give free advise (if you find a helpful one) !!

Good luck and take care

Ginger

I've had the same problem and it started as dry lips, so I used chapstick. but then it got worse so I started to drink more water and I used a medicated chapstick. It wouldn't help much because it required me to keep on aplying the chapstick constantly. It was starting to go around my lips and it was very dry. So I put a little bit of cortizone10 on around my lips but not on them. On my lips I started to use Carmex. My lips are now soft and it worked with 2 days. I also haven't been using any lipgloss or lipstick. Is extremely cold where I live so I probably only have 1 month to go w.o lipgloss. Hope it helps. Good luck!
